"Hey Kai, what happened today, earlier," He took a deep breath, having trouble forming his oncoming words, "I'll never leave you like that again-"

"Jonny, stop, I don't want to hear it." My voice barely rose above a whisper; I was scared to break down.

My family and I were still on the run. We were somewhere near the northern border and making our way towards a safe house. Well, at least that's what dad called it, but it could be a lie. They do that to me a lot, lie.

Mom and Dad were patrolling the woods, while Jonny and I were staring at the stars, waiting for them.

"Kai, you need to listen to me," he adds, turning his dazzling green eyes to glance at the rogue tear that managed to escape my eye.

I didn't feel like talking today – because today I almost died. I was riding on Jonny's back as he raced through the forest. I wasn't strong like him yet, practically a newborn pup - so to save time Jonny suggested I ride on his back.

Everything was going well until we were stopped by a group of rogues. It was the first real encounter I ever had with rogues. It was scary, frightening. Their burning gazes intent with one mission, to kill.

There were five of them in all, outnumbering us. I clutched tightly onto Jonny's fur, not daring to make a sound. If you don't want the enemy to kill you, you can't show them an ounce of fear, Jonny's voice whispered through our link. Stay strong Kai.

And that's exactly what I did; I held my head up high and stayed strong.

My father growled loudly, baring his teeth, a warning to back off. However, the feral look in their eyes showed that they didn't care; they wanted to fight. They wanted to draw blood, and when their eyes moved to mine, I knew they wanted to draw mine first.

Kai, get down and stay behind me, Jonny commanded, snarling at the rogue that dared to look my way.

The wolves all eyed one another before simultaneously attacking.

My dad took on two rogues at once, faring well as he effortlessly dodged their uncoordinated moves, whereas my mom was taking on the other lone wolf.

The wolf with the matted brown fur and glowing amber eyes kept his sights on me. He walked leisurely towards us, as if this was just some sadistic game to him.

Jonny stood his ground and bared his teeth, a loud growl ripping from his throat.

Remember Kai, stay behind.

I nodded even though he couldn't see it and watched as the wolf swiftly attacked.

Jonny leapt into the air to meet him head on, and so began the fight.

This rogue appeared to be more experienced than the rest. He was more agile, precise in the movements he was executing. However, despite Jonny's young age, he was stronger, smarter; something that continues to baffle me as I watched him give this wolf a run for its money.

I watched the fight with wide eyes. Jonny was easily winning, bite and claw marks now covering the limping wolf.

I was scared, clutching my hands tightly to one another, and slightly breathless whenever the wolf managed to hurt my brother.

I swiftly glanced to my father, to check how he's faring, but was only met with the sight of two rogue wolves lying dead on the ground.

My eyes moved to find my dad helping my mom bring down the lone wolf, but when I turned my eyes back to Jonnys fight I noticed too late the wolf knocking my brother away and running toward me; It's jaws wide open.
