He stands there quietly, eyes darting from one direction to another.

I don't really know what I was expecting him to say. I guess I was just surprised when his usually serious disposition wavered. It's scary when the most calm and collected person you know suddenly acts scared, nervous.

When his eyes finally meet the seriousness in mine he growls.

"No, I can't be too late," he roars.

My eyes widen in disbelief. He knew? But that's not possible, how could he have possibly known?

He snarls loudly, quickly driving away my previous thoughts. His fist collides with a nearby tree leaving a gaping hole in its bark and chunks of wood flying everywhere.

My mouth slightly parts at his violent outburst. I take a tentative step backwards when I notice his eyes swirling into a dangerous hue of black.

"Oh my god."

His hands morph into claws-canines protruding outward. He gazes into my eyes before rushing over to pin me against a tree. Shaking his head in dissatisfaction he moves to bury his head into neck, inhaling loudly. It's as if he's trying to confirm something, but what? What is he looking for?

"No, she's still there. I can smell her, I can feel her." He continues to deeply inhale my scent, reaffirming his previous statement.

I shake my head and grasp the side of his face. "No, that's her strength she left for me. She's gone."

I was about to go more into depth about her, about everything. But, I'm interrupted by another one of his angry growls.

I need to be cautious. His wolf is close to completely taking over.

He stares once more into my eyes. "Kailani Everly Haines, as your king I command your wolf to be released!"

I exhale loudly when I feel a strong gust of wind maneuver my hair backwards; but besides for that, nothing happened. His command didn't work; but something did register. My name, my middle name, how could he possibly know my middle name? The only people that know my middle name are my family...

"Goddammit, release!"

"How do you know my middle name?" I don't bother pushing him off me, knowing it would be futile to try and overpower him. Instead, I take this opportunity to gaze deeply into his eyes, watching as they slightly waver at my question.

"Not the time Kailani!"

"So when is?"

He ignores the hurt tone in my voice and moves to run his hands through my hair before moving closer, close enough that I can feel his hot breath on my face. He narrows his eyes, appearing to be concentrating on locking his eyes with mine.

"I command you to shift!"

I shrug my shoulders in defeat. "I'm not a wolf anymore Levi. Your commands don't work on me."

His hold loosens at my words but I don't move away. Instead I continue to stare at him, continue to stare at his alarmed expression.

I've never seen Levi so worried before and honestly it frightens me.

Not a moment later he loses his composure and shifts into his dark wolf.

His wolf stands tall, easily towering over my tiny human form.

He paces around snarling and growling.

Maybe I should say something?

I open my mouth to do so but close it when I notice he's already destroying every tree in his path.
