Lance had thought he knew his hero.

Takashi Shirogane.
Shiro.

Youngest Pilot at the Garrison and appointed most talented.
Tough and Courageous, an obvious role model.
A strong man leading a team to a 10,000 year old victory.
He had no obvious faults in the eyes of anyone who took a look at him, despite the scar that rests on the bridge of his nose.

Lance had thought this too once. Shiro, the perfect man.

But That was when Lance was simply looking, not seeing. Not listening.

Lance learned, Shiro has everything and nothing.

A faultless man doesn't exist, and if he does, he should not be trusted.

Lance had learned that the leader of Voltron was a crumbling statue that was once the epitome of beauty and strength.
He was once a man that had everything, the world wrapped around his fingers.

How could he not be damaged? A human mind can not simply forget and rebuild the same as before. The damage caused change to the foundation, and though it cannot be undone, it can be built upon and kept from crumbling with support.

Lance had learned this. Shiro was a master at hiding his pain, there was no time for it with a war.

Lance decided that despite this, he was going to support Shiro's foundation.

Lance once knew nothing.

And as the scarred man lay sobbing in his arms from the horrors of his past that his mind repeatedly reminds him and crushed with the weight of the universe, Lance decided that the damage to a statue can sometimes add to it's beauty.

Lance now knows everything.
