Icarus was the boy who flew too close to the sun. Who loved something so much he let it destroy him. In a moment of clarity and wonder, he fell. The wax burned his back and ran down his skin, dripping off his feet. The feathers floated past his fingertips and tickled the air whooshing around him. The harness dug into his shoulder blades and his blood mixed with the molten wax. Icarus was still staring at the sun.
~~~~~~
Lance didn't know why he felt so connected to Icarus, why he felt like he needed to see the sun. Reach the stars he was enamored with. The old myth resonated within him. Made him feel warm, like the sun that destroyed Icarus was only calmly washing over his skin.Then Lance got his wish. He had reached the stars. He saw them with their wonder and beauty. The brightness of novas and foreign colors of another universe. He never saw something so beautiful.
The stars are what kept him sane during the war. The only piece that wasn't alien was the darkness of space and brightness of stars. He was drawn to them.
Haggar was a powerful witch, able to twists people's minds. She controlled people and brainwashed the Galra race. Her power was beautiful and devastating. She worked in the shadows and silently reigned hell.It wasn't long that team Voltron was in her clutch.
It was easy for her to manipulate and use their own thoughts against them.
~~~~~
Shiro's mind was already broken.
Hunk was soft and kind, easily letting empathy and sadness control him.
Keith was irrational and couldn't keep control, his temper overruling.
Pidge was prideful and curious, yet small and vunerable.
Lance was emotional, homesick, insecure, childish, and loving.Haggar slid thoughts into their mind with ease, breaking them from the inside out.
~~~~~~
It begun and ended with the twinkling lights in the sky for Lance.
For Haggar had dug deep and drew him close, controlled him till he no longer had a thought of his own.
Lance had gotten in a pod and stared at the vast space. The stars twinkled mischievously. He didn't look away as he pushed the controls farther, closer.
The escape pods were not meant to handle the heat of a star. Lance didn't stop.
Lance was captured by their beauty and their memory, starstruck. He had gotten too close.
The pod couldn't protect him, nothing could.
Lance understood why he was so connected, He was Icarus. And Icarus always falls.
