Riley Shaw glanced up at the clock on the wall for the seventeenth time, biting down on her lip. She tried desperately to pay attention to the teacher in front of her but his dull, boring tone was enough to make even a hyper toddler fall asleep. Riley lowered her head, letting her long brown hair fall over her face. She discreetly pulled her phone from her pocket, keeping it hidden under the desk, and checked for any messages. The clock on the wall ticked loudly, echoing in her ears. She counted down the seconds, waiting for the bell that would signal her freedom from the hell she had endured for over an hour already.
Ten, nine, eight...
Riley shifter closer to the edge of her seat.
Seven, six, five...
She bit down on her lip again.
Four, three, two, one...
The sweet sound of the bell rang and Riley grabbed her unopened textbook and raced from the hall. She pulled out her phone, dialling the all too familiar number. After three rings, a deep voice answered.
"Seriously? Are you that eager?" The voice chuckled.
"Just shut up and tell me!" Riley said excitedly.
"I passed."
Riley squealed and jumped up and down on the spot. "Oh Sammy, I'm so proud of you!"
"Thanks Riles, I got an interview at the law school on Monday."
"Exciting!" Riley grinned down the phone. "Alright well I gotta go, I'll see you later."
"Bye Riles."
Riley hung up and headed to her last class of the day. As she walked down the hall, an arm slung over her shoulders and she rolled her eyes automatically.
"Hello Kyle." Riley sighed.
"Hey there beautiful." Kyle grinned, flashing her a bright smile.
Riley took his arm off her shoulder, letting it drop to his side again and continued walking.
"Oh come on babe, don't be like that." Kyle smirked.
"Kyle, just leave me alone, it's never gonna happen." Riley shook her head and quickened her pace.
Kyle wouldn't take no for an answer though and followed her all the way to her class. Riley continued to ignore him, batting his hand away every time he tried to touch her. She lost count of the amount of times she'd told him to back off by the time she reached her lecture. Luckily for her, Kyle continued on to his own class and Riley was free from his persistent man handling and crude comments.
An hour later, Riley was free. She made her way across campus and back to her dorm room that she shared with Sam, when he wasn't at his girlfriends apartment. She pushed the door open and found it unlocked, which meant Sam was still there. As she walked in, she saw him sitting on his bed with his phone in his hands.
"You know staring at it won't make it work, right?" Riley smirked as she dropped her bag on the floor and sat down on her bed.
"My brother tried calling." Sam said quietly.
Riley's smirk dropped. She'd heard many things about Sam's brother, Dean and their father, John. Although she'd never met them, she wasn't overly fond of them and had no desire to meet them anytime soon.
"You okay?" Riley asked softly.
Sam sighed and nodded his head. "Yeah, I just don't think I'm ready to dig into all that family drama again."
