I woke up to see my father, mother, and Rowen standing by my bed. Rowen' hand was in mine. their were also a few nurses. "She's awake!" Said mother. "Thank the lord!" Said father. But I wasn't paying attention to what they were saying. I was paying attention to my hand that was in Rowen's.
I quickly pulled it away and looked away from the look of hurt in his eyes. But I couldn't let that bother me. It was for the best, I didn't want to hurt him. The shadows could come again, and I didn't want him to be hurt, and I really didn't want him to see them.
"How are you feeling, my dear?" Asked a nurse. "I-I guess I'm alright" I said. "Well I guess isn't an answer. It's yes or no" said another nurse. "Leave her be, she's been through a lot" said Rowen. "Yes, your highness" said the two nurses. They left the room.
"Are you alright, Alexandria?" Asked mother. "I was so worried about you! You passed out in my arms, and-" but I interrupted Rowen's sentence by saying, "I'm fine, thank you". But Rowen still looked worried. Why was he always worried about me?
"But, I don't think I have the strength to travel to Doriella tomorrow" I said as convincingly as I could. Father laughed and said, "your fine right now, so you'll be fine by tomorrow morning! Don't be such a baby. Don't you want to meet Prince Laithen, your future husband?" "Not in particular" I mumbled. Fathers expression grew stern.
"We are going to Doriella, and you will marry Laithen rather you like it or not!" Father yelled. "Rowen isn't married! He's 23 years old, and he hasn't gone near any women! He should be king, not you! Your just to selfish to give up the throne!" I yelled.
"You shut your mouth! You will marry Laithen rather you like it or not!" Father yelled. He stormed out of the room. Mother gave me a sympathetic look, then left the room. Rowen stayed with me.
"Do you really think that's true? Do you think that father is really too selfish to give up the throne?" Rowen asked. "No, I don't think. I know" I said. He sighed. Then, I looked down at my hands. The black mist was coming from them. I gasped and moved my hands quickly. The mist disappeared.
"Alexandria, are you alright?" He asked. I hesitated, but then said, "yeah, I just thought I saw a bug". He sighed and smiled. "It's just a little bug, it'll be alright" he said. I nodded. He kissed my forehead and said, "sweet dreams, Alexandria". He headed towards the door, but then I realized something.
I was too scared to be alone.
"Rowen!" I said. He turned to me. "Can you stay with me?" I asked. He smiled and said, "of course". So I fell asleep in my brothers arms, protected from all harm.
