Chapter 25

You woke up the next morning to a knock on your door.
Mads: "Daniel go away" you mumbled just loud enough for the person on the other side to hear.
Zach: "I'm not Daniel..."
Mads: "Come in Zach." You sat up and ran your fingers through your hair to take some of the messiness out.
Zach: "you okay? Last night was.."
Mads: "Definitely an adventure."
Zach: "I was gonna say tragic but yeah that works too."
Mads: "I just, I trust Dani I really do, but it's so hard to trust anyone in general after what my ex did."
Zach: "Do I even wanna ask?"
Mads: "No probably not."
Zach: "Do you need to vent?"
Mads: "Yes but I won't."
Zach: "Why not? I'm here to listen."
Mads: "I don't really... share my emotions."
Zach: "Look I know you have been hurt in the past but I'm not the type of dude."
Mads: "I know..."
Zach saw your notebook still open to the page of lyrics. He reached over and grabbed it, looking through the page.
Mads: "Zach no don-"
Zach: "Mads are these lyrics?"
You went red. All you did was nod because you were too embarrassed.
Zach: "These are really good wait... are these about Daniel?"
You nodded again.
Zach started reading them outloud
Zach: "wish I would have known before.."
Mads: "SH! Why do you have to read them outloud??"
Zach: "Sorry. This is a really good chorus.."
Mads: "Its just a chorus not a song."
Zach: "Still. If you can write a chorus soon enough you will be writing your own songs without the our help."
Zach: "Anyways... if you need anything let me know."
Zach started walking out of the room, when his hand hit the doorknob..
Mads: "Zach wait."
Zach turned around.
Zach: "Yes mads."
Mads: "What do I do?"
Zach: " What do you think you should do?"
Mads: "I don't know."
Zach: "Yet. You will. Just give it time. Get up and get ready. We are going hiking today remember?"
Mads: "Oh. Yeah."
You got ready and put on a pair of jean shorts and a cropped tank top. You went with white since it would be hot. You put your hair in french braids and did your usual light makeup, and walked downstairs.
Jonah: "Morning."
Mads: "Morning.."
Jonah: "Daniel slapped his watermelon last night."
Mads: "Really. Daniel is never mad enough to abuse his poor watermelon. He loves it way too much."
Jonah: "Mads he feels like he did wrong."
Mads: "I know he didn't Jonah. But Im scared of getting hurt again. I think I might make a break with him..."
Jonah: "What? Madelyn you do realize if your mom and dad broke up after a little fight, you wouldn't exsist right?"
Mads: "My mom also didn't get cheated on."
Jonah: "Daniel didn-"
Mads: "Ex Jonah. Not talking about Daniel."
His face dropped.
Mads: "Yeah. I have to think about us. Im gonna go talk to him." You told Jonah, biting back tears.
Jonah: "If you think its the right thing.."
You walked up the stairs and knocked on Daniels door.'
He slowly opened it with bloodshot eyes.
Mads: "Hows Mr.Melon?"
He scoffed a little.
Daniel: "Severly injured."
Mads: "Daniel I know you didn't mean to make it seem like that. I know your little fuzzy brain takes longer to process things."
Daniel: "Rude but okay."
You chuckled sadly.
Mads: "Daniel what do you think we should do? I know what I think but I want to hear your side first."
Daniel: "Well.. Im hoping the answer is have fun hiking and move on but its not that easy is it?"
You finally couldn't hold it anymore. Tears fell into your lap, but you acted like they weren't there.
Mads: "Probably not."
Daniel: "Let me ask you this. Do you trust me?"
Mads: "Yeah.."
Daniel: "Do you love me?"
Mads: "Yes of course I do."
Daniel: "More than food?"
Mads: "Know your limits." You chuckled through tears.
Daniel let tears fall at this point.
Daniel: "You know all of this goes back to you from me too. That should give us our answer.. Why doesn't it?"
Mads: "It does Dani... Just not the one I want."
Daniel: "Breakup..."
Mads: "No.. Break. Just for a week or so to see where we stand."
Daniel nodded.
Mads: "You know I love you, right?"
Daniel: "You know I love you as well."
So this is what it came too. Something so stupid came to a break. Everything was so blown out of proportion, but as of right now, you weren't there. So you didn't know what actually happened.
You walked out and ran into Jack.
Jack: "Mads whats wrong?"
Mads: "Jack don't lie to me I need to know. Did he kiss her back and you guys are covering for him?"
Jack went silent.
Jack: "Wh-what are you talking about?"
Mads: "Jack."
He went silent again and looked down. That told you everything you needed to know. You walked back into Daniels room.
Mads: "Wow. Here I was again believing lies. Maybe you should go be with her Daniel."
Daniel fell quiet.
Mads: "Daniel. Of all people you can lie to. You choose me? That was a really dumb decision." You were raising your voice with anger and pain through the tears. He cheated.
Mads: "Daniel I thought.. I thought you were different but hey I guess we are all wrong today."
Daniel was crying.
Daniel: "Im sorry.." It came out more as a high pitched whisper then talking.
Mads: "Yeah. Me too. For choosing to date you."
You walked out of his room, fuming. You went straight into Corbyns room.
He looked up and jumped off of his bed.
Corbyn: "Sis?"
Mads: "He did Corbyn." You were balling your eyes out.
Corbyn: "What?"
Mads: "He kissed back. He cheated on me."
Corbyn went red with anger.
He walked into Daniels room.
You stood in the door way and watched.
Corbyn: "Are you stupid Daniel?!"
Daniel: "Corbyn I already feel guilty and like a peice of trash."
Corbyn: "YOU SHOULD YOU CHEATED ON MY SISTER."
Daniel couldn't look at anyones face, all you saw was him looking down crying.
Corbyn: "Daniel. I trusted you and so did she. You made a HUGE mistake. Your lucky Im not murdering you. Even though I want to."
Daniel: "Then why aren't you?"
Corbyn: "Honestly? Because even though you hurt her, she still cares. She wouldn't let me live if I hit you right now."
Daniel: "You act like I don't care about her."
Corbyn: "Sure doesn't seem like it Daniel."
Corbyn walked out dragging you into his room. He paced back and forth and flung a vase across the room off his dresser, hitting a wall, and shattering.
Corbyn: "Im sorry Madelyn I should have never let this happen. This is exactly why I made those rules and I let you break them and now your sitting here. Like this."
Mads: "Its not your fault Im just stupid for believing his lies."
Corbyn sat down and hugged you. You sobbed into his chest for a little while and fell asleep. He left you in his bed, and went hiking with the rest of the boys. Daniel stayed home. You were both heartbroken, and Daniel was full of guilt. It was just the two of you in the house, and Jonah hoped it would cause you to make up. But one can only hope.
