River had something special planned for Cooper the week following the championship game; he wouldn't say what it was, but knowing River, Cooper figured it was something on the same level as bringing someone over from Italy to cook pasta. Cooper only hoped it wasn't anything too grand; all he knew was that he had to bring enough clothes for three days and that River was picking him up right after school on Friday. As always, Cooper told his parents he was hanging out with his friends from the skatepark, but this time he told them there was a skate event over the weekend at one of the parks that he and his friends wanted to go to. On the high of his win, his parents were more than okay with it and even loaded him with cash just in case.
He had taken the bus home, and after gathering his stuff, he met River a couple of blocks down, and soon they were headed god knows where. Cooper was quiet for most of the ride, but at one point, River looked over at him and smiled, starting a conversation, "So how was your day?"
"Oh," his day was like all his other days the past week. Shrugging, Cooper gave him a tight-lipped smile, "it was okay," he was going to leave it at that but figured he'd ask River the same question.
"Pretty good, but I'd say it's better now." River was really happy, and for a second, Cooper really thought he was on drugs, but the more he studied him, the more he realized River was just excited for his surprise.
Giving an even smaller smile, Cooper just nodded and sat quietly in his seat. "Nice." They drove for another ten minutes, and his suspicions were even more heightened when he noticed they were going deep into downtown and saw all the tall glass buildings.
When they stopped at one of the tallest buildings, River got off, passing his keys to the valet, and looked at Cooper, who still sat in his seat, confused. "You coming?" Snapping out of it, Cooper grabbed his stuff and hurriedly got off, staying close to River, who led the way inside and to the elevators. The entrance was modern and bright with white walls and a beige floor with different sized wooden panels at every entrance, along with brown suede furniture placed here and there. It was simple yet luxurious, and Cooper had no idea what they were doing there. He was in so much shock looking around he didn't even notice River over by the elevators smiling at him.
Rushing over, Cooper stayed close to him once again while looking around. "What are we doing here?" He whispered to River, who pressed the elevator button.
"My parents are in town and took over the whole house, so I figured we'd stay in a hotel for a few days." The doors opened, and they both got in, and once again in shock, Cooper looked at the city through the glass as they went up.
When they reached their room, River unlocked it with the key card, and right as they walked in, Cooper's mouth dropped, "Woah," he said, stunned. It looked like a mini apartment with a kitchen, bedroom, and living space area. He walked further in and walked around in shock, "This must have cost a fortune!" He yelled from all the way across the room.
"Do you like it?" River smiled and watched him the whole time as he looked like a little kid going around checking everything.
There were windows all around, so he ran up to one of them and looked out; his mouth hung open and eyes wide, "I love it; you can see the entire city from up here." He could see all the green trees in the park and all the tall buildings that would be illuminated at night, giving them an even better view.
"You said you wanted to stay at the top room of a New York hotel and look at the city. It's no New York, but I figured you'd still like this."
Finally looking away, Cooper nodded, "I do," he then turned back to the city. "imagine what it'll look like at night. How long are we staying?"
