I was so giddy from all the love this book has been getting that I wanted to do an early update. Plus, I want something to hurry up and happen between River and Cooper, so enjoy!
Question: Do you like Stella?
_____________"Helloo Cooper"
Opening his eyes, he looks at the person irritated before calming his face once he noticed who it was, "Oh, hey, Stella."
"Isn't it weird how I always find you alone, looking lost every time?" She asked as she sat down. Cooper just responded with a slow nod.
Looking as if she was studying him, she asked, "What's up with you? You seem upset; I should be the one upset. My team is the one that's losing" Cooper looked at her in confusion, "You care about that stuff" she didn't seem like the type of person who was into sports. "No, not really. Anyways, what's up?"
Cooper hesitated, not sure if he should talk about someone she knew on a personal level. Usually, he would keep it to himself, but the thought of her helping him understand what happened last Saturday convinced him to ask her, "You're close to River, right? You guys went to homecoming or whatever."
She looked at him, taken aback. He already regretted asking, "I'm sorry. That was stupid; I shouldn't have asked-,"
"Yea, I know him, pretty well actually. I'm shocked to hear that you two even know each other."
Deciding to ignore her comment, he continued talking about his concerns, "Has he been acting strange to you?" Stella looked at him as if she didn't know how to respond, probably confused. Breaking eye contact with him, she went into her purse to grab something. "River's...a strange guy. He's probably stressed out about school or something." She said while applying lipstick.
He could tell that she wasn't going to say any more on the topic, so he figured he'd just drop it, "Yeah, you're probably right" There was a quiet pause between the two of them until Stella spoke, "How do you even know River? You guys seem like complete opposites, I can't even imagine you two sharing something in common."
Finally, a question he didn't need to lie about: "His coach introduced us," Stella made a disgusted face and looked like she was going to puke, "Ugh, ew. I swear his coach is a pervert." Cooper looked at her sick. He'd admit to him being a handsy man.
Swishing her blonde hair over her shoulder, she smiled and looked over at Cooper, "Anyways, enough about them. What about that girl you were talking to?" She asked, referring to Riley.
Riley.
He wondered if things were over between them. After he cut off her ranting in Latin, they didn't speak all week. She even switched seats so she wouldn't sit in front of him anymore. "Eh, it's not really working out," He said, twiddling his thumbs. "Don't say that. You both are probably just nervous and shy. I bet she really likes you. You just have to show her you feel the same way. You do like her, right?"
Cooper had to think about it for a second.
Did he like her?
"I think so," he said, rubbing the back of his neck. Stella rolled her eyes at his response, "Oh, please, I saw you two at the party. You were both all over each other, laughing and talking." Thinking back to last Saturday, he remembered thinking about how nice it was to talk to her and how he really liked kissing her.
But he also kissed River that same night.
"Yeah, I guess I do really like her."
