Chapter 6 - Nerds Can Be Hot

The next morning Cooper didn't want to wake up. He stayed up all night reading the book and annotating it. He only did the first chapter, but he did read a couple more just in case. A loud knock on his door made him shoot up in bed, "Cooper, get up, I've already told you three times." He slammed his head back on the pillow and yelled out, "I'm up!". Staying in for a couple more seconds, he finally got up to take a shower. Cooper stuffed things in his backpack and ran out of his room. He said bye to his mom, who didn't leave until eight and rushed out to the car.

On the drive to school, his dad lectured him, "You're not going to be able to go out if you're going to come home late and not wake up in the morning." Cooper just rolled his eyes, "School doesn't start until 8. I don't get why we have to leave by 6:30." He could tell his dad was starting to get annoyed with him, "Because I have to be there early. If it bothers you that much, then take the bus." Someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed.

Cooper pulls out his phone and sees messages from both group chats.

All his friends are dumb.

They arrive at school and head to his office. Cooper sits down and goes to Instagram. As he was scrolling, he saw a recent post from River. It was him in his school uniform, but this time his shirt was tucked in, and he had his tie and blazer on; his hair was neatly styled. It was him and a two other guys just standing around with River standing with a leg over the other and throwing a lazy, side peace sign and bored smile with the caption,

Cooper smiled and liked the post. He actually liked River. He was a pretty cool guy and could see himself being friends with him. Although it was weird hanging out with a senior from a completely different school, he didn't have to tell anyone about it. That's why nobody knew about his friendship with Noah, Mike, and Max. His parents never cared where he was as long as he was safe and checked in every other hour. He knew right from wrong, and the three weren't harmless, and their parents treated Cooper like their own. Plus, there's not much damage they can do; they were freshmen for crying out loud; they can barely talk to girls.
