A loud ringing caused Cooper to let out an annoyed groan and sit up to yell at whoever's phone was blaring.
"Answer your freaking phone!"
The sound of a door opening, followed by a laugh, still wasn't enough for him to process what was going on.
"It's your phone. Here." The voice said, handing it to him.
Without checking the caller ID, he answered agitated, "Hello?"
"I was making sure you were up. Please don't be late, and don't forget to eat breakfast." Recognizing the voice, he realized it was his mom. Still tired, he muttered an okay before hanging up.
Resting his head back, he closed his eyes for a few seconds before opening one when he saw the light and heard rustling. "What are you doing?"
"Getting ready," they said, sounding as if it was obvious.
Hanging his head back once again, he groaned but then shot his head back up when it finally dawned on him.
It's only Wednesday.
Checking the time, he noticed it was 6:30 am, and he wanted to punch the pillow for how early it was; he truly hated school and wanted nothing to do with it.
Not wanting to get up, he sat there looking off in the distance, not looking at anything in particular, when something else dawned on him.
River.
It was too early to process anything, so his first reaction was to frown and roll his eyes.
"Are you okay?"
Snapping his head in the direction of the voice, he scrunched his eyebrows and stared at the ground. "Uh, yeah."
"You can get ready if you'd like. I'm already done. Your clothes are on the counter."
Cooper nodded and got up, eyes glued to the floor as he awkwardly made his way to the bathroom. Closing the door, he walked to the mirror at a fast pace, eager to examine what River did to his body.
Upon looking, he was surprised to see no hickies on his neck. There were a couple of red marks but not bruised enough to be considered one; they could easily be passed as a rash. For a moment, he thought he hallucinated last night, but when he took off the shirt, he saw the evidence. There on his abdomen and chest were two bruises that were obviously from River.
A feeling of fear and regret immediately came over him; he didn't understand why he did it and why he let River do it to him. He couldn't even use the excuse of being drunk this time; he was completely sober and willing, which worried him.
Trying to forget it, he washed up and brushed his teeth with the white toothbrush that was surprisingly still in the medicine cabinet. Cooper told himself that River had yet to throw it away because he kept forgetting to.
While brushing, he remembered Saturday and the drugs he found in the cabinet and in the closet. He had completely forgotten about it and, truth be told, that whole day.
Curious to see if there were any drugs, he finished brushing and turned on the shower to drown out the noise, and started looking. First checking the cabinet, there was nothing, not even the medicine bottles he'd seen before. Then checking the closet, he wasn't about to tear the place up, but he did kneel to check the inside's corners. Again, nothing.
