Chapter 3 - Welcome Class of 2021

At 6am, Cooper gets in the car to head to school. "Are you excited?" His dad asks, starting the car and driving off. 

The truth is Cooper doesn't know what he is, it's a new school, but with basically the same people. "No, not really. I mean I got my friends and I know where most of my classes are. I'll be good," he shrugged.

"That's what I like to hear." The drive to school was fine, his dad talked about what teachers were nice and which ones weren't, "Hey make sure to tell me if that drama teacher tries giving you a hard time. He's hated me ever since I didn't let him use the gym for one of their rehearsals a year ago."

Cooper gave his dad a reassuring smile, "Don't worry. You would never catch me going anywhere near theatre." his dad laughs, and they continue on to school.

They park in the admin section and Cooper helps with a few things. His dad gives him a box and tells him to drop it off in his office. He starts walking and enters the school, immediately seeing banners and posters for the new year.

Welcome Back Bulldogs!

Seeing them made Cooper feel excited. He knew that a lot will happen in the next four years, hopefully, most of it good.

Already knowing where the gym is located, he heads in and goes to his dad's office. He drops off his gym bag on the floor and hears his dad walk in, "You wanna see the new jerseys you guys are going to wear?" pulling one out he shows him the red jersey with the school's mascot name and numbers in white along with a white stripe on the sides.

"They're cool. Definitely better than last years." He was starting to feel a little more excited.

His dad pats him on the shoulder, "Yea, and I've already saved a set with a number 20 on it." Cooper smiles, it's been his number ever since he was in peewee basketball. His phone dings and checking it, he sees Miles asking where he's at. Cooper replies that he's in the gym and tells him to meet in there.

Shortly after, Miles walks in with Parker and Jason. Cooper's dad welcomes them with a big smile, "Hey guys! Welcome to high school." the guys all share smiles and Parkers the first to talk.

"I'm excited for the ladies." he says while rubbing his hands and smiling.

Jason speaks up next, holding his back pack straps, "Hopefully the classes aren't too boring."

Miles rolls his eyes and puts his arm around his friends, "I don't know about y'all, but I'm ready to play some ball." All the guys agree and look at the new jerseys.

"Hey, let me get a picture of y'all. You guys can look back at this when you graduate and laugh at how tiny y'all are." His dad takes his phone out and the four boys put their hands around each other and give the camera a big smile. "Nice one. I'll send it to Cooper and he'll share it with you. I'm glad you guys have stuck together this long. I hope you remember to always have each other's back." Looking at his watch he notices the time and tells the boys that they should head to their advisory. The only one he had advisory with was Jason so they bid farewell to the other two and went on.

As they get into their classroom they sit where the teacher tells them and wait for the bell. The bell rings and a skinny, red-haired lady with glasses walks in happily, "Welcome students! I am Mrs. Atkins and I will be your biology and homeroom teacher! I am so happy to meet you all and hope we have an ex-CELL-ent time this year!" All the students laugh, and Cooper hopes that if all his classes are like this then maybe he'll be just fine.
