Neighbourhood

We swiftly walked across the road, Tom reached it first. From the back of the group I could see Tom reach for the handle and the door swing open as soon as he touched it. “Umm…” Tom said quietly when the door opened “Does anyone want to go first?” Tom asked. I walked around the group to the door, I looked in and spotted a vase sitting just inside the door. “I have an idea, everyone move back a bit” I said, I heard shuffling behind me as I reached in a picked up the vase. I threw it to the ground, smashing it to pieces “What was the point in that?” Shiro asked “Because if there are zombies in there, hopefully they will come to the noise instead of jumping out at us” I said stepping away from the doorway. We waited about a minute before walking in. I thought that maybe there weren’t any zombies inside but we were all still being really cautious. “We take a room each, clear the bottom floor before going upstairs”. We each split up and went into individual rooms. I walked into the first room on the right.
The room was illuminated by the sun light shining through the window. A wooden desk sat against the far wall, covered sheets of paper and a steel filing cabinet was across from the window. “Guess this must be their office” I thought to myself. I walked over to the desk and began shifting papers, I quickly flicked through them tossing everything that wasn’t important onto the floor, by the end of it nothing was left on the desk and all the papers were scattered on the floor. “Well, that was a waste of time” I thought as I opened the desk drawer. Sitting on the top of another stack of papers was a half full bottle of whiskey. “Maybe, it could be used as a disinfectant or something?” I thought as I put it in my bag. I turned out the desk drawer and find nothing inside. I walk out of the office and further down the hallway. The hallway opened up into a dining room with an open connection to the kitchen. Tom was rummaging around in the kitchen, “Find anything?” I asked, he turned and looked at me “I’ve found a few cans of food and a small medical box, it only has a few band aids and a small bandage in it.” Tom said “Well, it’s better than anything I found, I only found a bottle of whiskey” I said taking it out of my bag and putting it on the table. Tom stood up and left the kitchen, he emptied his bag of the medical supplies and food and put them on the table.

We sat around the table and waited for everyone to come into the dining room, first in was James, he had searched the living room “There was nothing in there” He said. Next in was Shae and Jess, they had searched in the rumpus, they walked into the dining room and put half a block of chocolate on the table “This was all we could find” Shae said sitting down. Shannon was next, she had searched the bathroom, “I found a few bandages in there but not much else” She said putting them on the table. Shiro was last, she had searched the garage, “The land rover is in there, but the keys weren’t so they are somewhere in the house” She said sitting down. “Ok, so is everyone ready to search upstairs?” I asked. Without a word, everyone stood up and we walked upstairs.
Upstairs we were greeted by a dark hallway, a small window on the far wall the only source of light. There were four doors total, two on the left and two on the right. We split into three groups, two groups of two and a group of three. Tom and Shiro took the first door on the left, Shae, Jess and James took the first door on the right and Shannon and I took the second door on the left. Shannon turned the doorhandle and slowly pushed the door open. The door opened into the master bedroom, the curtains were open and billowing slightly from the breeze coming in the open window. A large bed was up against the centre of the far wall. Shannon walked in and standing in the doorway I quickly scanned the room. “Let’s start looking” Shannon said walking over to a bedside table. I walked over to other and pulled out the top drawer and tipped the contents onto the floor. Nothing but underwear fell onto the floor; I quickly pushed it all under the bed using the drawer. Through the empty gap where the top drawer was I could see that the bottom drawer had nothing but pyjamas. “Anything?” I asked standing up “Nothing of any use” Shannon said. I turned back toward the door to leave when I spotted two doors on the left wall. I walked up to the door closest to me and opened it.
A small, rectangular room was on the other side of the door, clothes were hung on every wall. I walked in and started pushing aside clothes searching for anything of use. After moving about 15 clothes hangers I found a small box, I opened it and found it was full of bullets. I quickly chucked them in my bag and continued searched. After finding nothing else I left the wardrobe. I looked in the other door and saw Shannon rummaging around the master bathroom. “Find anything?” I asked again “Dental floss, a few band aids and a needle” She said closing the bathroom mirror “What about you?” She asked “I found a small box of bullets, I don’t know if they will fit the gun I found though” I said as she walked out of the bathroom. “Let’s go see what everyone else found” Shannon said walking into the hallway.
Everyone was already standing in the hallway, “What did you two manage to find?” Jess asked “Some bullets, a few band aids, some dental floss and a needle” Shannon said “What about all of you?” I asked “Well, we found a cricket bat and a Swiss army knife in there” James said indicating the room he, Shae and Jess searched “And we found a whole lot of nothing in our room” Shiro said “Ok then, one final room to check, you can all go downstairs if you want” I said “I’ll look with you, we can search faster” James said stepping forward “Ok, see you all in a minute”. James and I walked up to the door as everyone went downstairs.
I grabbed the door handle and pushed the door open. A completely pink room was inside, the walls were pink, the shelves were pink, even the bed frame was pink. I quickly looked around the room and saw dolls and girly toys scattered everywhere, I looked over to the bed and saw large blood stains on the bed. “Oh god” I said looking away “What, what’s wrong, oh…” James said looking at the bed “Umm, I don’t think there is anything of use in there” I said walking out of the room and closing the door. “Yeah, let’s just go” James said as we walked down the stairs.
“That was quick, anything of use?” Shannon asked as we reached the bottom of the stairs “It was a little girl’s room I think, but there was blood on the bed” I said sitting down “So I doubt there would be anything of use in there” “Ok, then shall we go?” Shae asked standing up “Yeah, wait, did anyone find the keys?” I asked as everyone stood up, everyone looked at each before saying no “Crap, guess we have to look somewhere else. As we walked out of the house the shattered remains of the vase cracked under our feet, “Hey, look what I just found” Shiro said showing a key “What, where did you find that?” Jess asked “It was in the vase which Kayleb broke” Jess replied “Well, let’s go try it” Shae said walking back towards the garage.
Most of the garage was occupied by the Land Rover, Shannon walked over to the driver’s side door, “Chuck me the keys” She said to Shiro, Shiro threw them over the bonnet of the car and Shannon caught them easily. She separated the key which looked like it was for the car and pushed it into the car lock. She gave it a quick twist and the car lock clicked open. “Someone open the garage door” Shannon said as she turned the car on. James and Tom walked over and quickly pushed the door upwards, it rolled up easily. “Reverse it into up the driveway” I said as Shannon drove out of the garage. Shannon quickly drove across the street and reversed the car into the driveway as we walked out into the sunlight.
