I picked up Scarlett and walked towards got on the bus. Everyone followed and Kimmy happily walked behind us. Jess got in the driver’s seat as Kaycee closed the door behind everyone. “Where should we go?” Tom asked “Jess, take us to your neighbour’s house. Tonight, we are going to get your house back.” I said. “And how do you expect us to do that? They took our weapons” Ebony asked “Not all of them, I left my bow in the bus and Kaycee left her gun” James said from the back seat “So we have a bow and a gun which no one can aim with, what great weapons we have” Shae said quietly “That’s why we are going to Jess’s neighbour’s house, we are going to search for weapons” I said turning to Shae. A gun shot comes from the house and a small cloud of dust rises in front of the bus. “Come on, let’s go before they fire again” Shannon says to Jess from the passenger seat. Jess turned on the bus and reversed out the driveway. She drove a little while down the street, passing two houses before pulling into a driveway. “Why did you pass the other two houses?” Kaycee asked “Because the guy who lived her was in the army, so I’m hoping he has some decent weapons” Jess said turning off the bus. We all piled out of the bus; before Kimmy could get out of the bus Tom shut the door staying “Stay”. We walked towards the front door, the house was an old white cottage with the paint coming off the walls and the windows covered in dust. A small window was beside the door. James walked up to it and smashed it with his elbow. He pushed his arm in and unlocked the door. The door creaked open, the house was lighter than Jess’s house, the light made the dust floating around more visible. “Are you sure someone lives here Jess?” Shae says stepping inside “Yeah, but he acted a bit like a hermit” Jess said from the doorway. We all walked inside and started walking around in two groups, one group went with Kaycee and the gun, the other with James and the bow. The house wasn’t very big, a lounge, a kitchen and a bedroom were the only rooms inside. With the house cleared we started searching for weapons. Jess, James and Ebony searched the lounge, Kaycee, Shiro and Tom searched the kitchen and Shae, Shannon and I searched his bedroom. Shannon flung open his wardrobe, hanging on hooks were several bush camouflaged clothes. “Could we use these?” Shannon asked turning around “I guess so” Shae said. Shannon pulled them down and laid them on the bed. We turned back and kept looking. Out of the corner of my eye I saw Shae stand up and place a small, green box on the bed. “What have you found?” I asked standing up “I don’t know” Shae said looking at it. She grabbed the small latch and lifted it. She raised the lid on the box and picked a gun up from inside it. “Well, we have another gun” She said holding the gun in her hand “Is there any ammo in there?” Shannon asked from inside the wardrobe “Yeah, two boxes one of umm… 9 millimetre bullets and a box of shells” Shae said putting the boxes on the bed. “Cool, because this was in here” Shannon said pulling a double-barrel shotgun from the wardrobe. “Ok, well I don’t think there would be anything else in here so let’s go see what everyone else has found. Shae loaded the gun and bullets back into the box, Shannon carried the shotgun and I rolled the clothes into a ball. We walked into the lounge and set everything on the small coffee table in front of the couch. Jess, James and Ebony walked over to look at what we had found “Have you managed to find anything?” Shannon asked “No, nothing we could really use” Ebony said sitting down “Ok, well let’s just wait for the others” Shae said. Eventually Tom, Kaycee and Shiro walked in. “What have you managed to find?” Kaycee asked “A few ‘Meals Ready to Eat’, some kitchen knives and a hunting knife” Shiro said setting the meals down “Ok, well do we have enough to take the house back?” Tom asked “I think, maybe, but now we should wait and do it during the night, so they can’t see us coming” James said sitting down. “Ok, well, who’s hungry?” Shae said grabbing a meal.
The sun had set completely when we finally decided to leave, Shiro had the pistol, Kaycee had the revolver, James had his bow and Tom was carrying the shotgun. Everyone else was carrying knives. We walked normally down the road until we reached the edge of Jess’s property. “Is there any other way to get close to your house Jess?” Shannon asked from the fence “Yeah, we can get close through the bush behind my house” Jess said “Ok, well how should we get to the bush?” Shiro asked “We can get there if we follow the fence on my neighbours side” Jess said jumping the fence. We walked along, ducking low. We stopped once we were directly opposite the front door of Jess’s house, a man was standing on the porch resting on a shotgun. We continued low until we reached the back of Jess’s property, we jumped the fence and waited in the corner of the property, “How are we going to get in?” Kaycee asked “Through the fireplace, I covered it when we left, maybe they haven’t realised” I said. We crept along until we reached the other house. Jess reached the house first, she lifted the welcome mat and unlocked the door. She slowly opened it and we all walked inside.
Ebony shut the door quietly. We crept down the darkened hallway until we reached the fireplace, the piece of plywood was still in place. “Yes, they didn’t realise” I thought to myself. Shae slightly shifted the plywood to look inside. Someone was sitting on the couch asleep. Tom shifted the plywood back “There is someone on couch, I think he is asleep” Shae whispered. Shae shifted the plywood again and we walked inside.
There was a small lantern sitting on a corner table beside the couch. James walked over and turned it off, sending the room into darkness. The man sitting on the couch stirred as if he was waking up. Tom walked up to him and smacked him in the face with the end of the shotgun, knocking him unconscious. “That was a bit harsh wasn’t it?” Shiro said quietly “Well, it was that or let him wake up and then we are all screwed” Tom whispered moving away from the now unconscious man “Does he have any weapons?” I asked quietly, Jess crept over and started searching. She eventually stepped back, holding a small Makarov pistol and Ebony’s rifle. “Here Ebony” Jess said giving the rifle to her “Thanks” Ebony said taking the rifle. We kept low and went and stood on either side of Jess’s bedroom door. I reached up and pushed the door open.
A loud bang came from the other side and a bullet tore through the door narrowly missing my hand. It sent shards of wood showering to the floor. I jerked my hand back away from the door. “I thought I told you to get off my property” Carl’s voice shouted from the other side of the door. The door connected to the front room slammed open, the man from outside was standing there with a shotgun, Tom instinctively turned around and fired. Everyone grabbed their ringing ears as the bullet caught the man in the chest, sending him flying back into the front room. My ears were still ringing slightly but I took my hands off my ears. Through the ringing I could hear Carl say slyly “So you managed to find a gun, but do you even know how to use it?” “Well enough” Shae shouted. Another bullet went through the door. Shiro gave Shae a look as to be quiet “So how is this going to end Carl?” I asked “Well, it will end one of two ways, either with you dead or me” He shouted “Or you could just leave and give us the house back” I suggested “Ha, that’s not happening” Carl shouted. I pointed to Ebony, Jess and James and then to the fireplace. They moved over and climbed through the fireplace. We sat there in silence and waited, then suddenly three bangs and the shattering of glass. I pushed open the door and Shiro and Tom ran inside with their guns raised. We all followed in behind, Carl was lying dead on the bed and the man who had held the lantern was on the floor. The man with the lantern had a single gunshot to the head and Carl was shot twice in the back. Ebony, Jess and James ran back into the room, “Are they dead?” James asked “Yeah, I think so” Shiro said checking the bodies, Shiro stepped back away from the bodies. Carl suddenly sat up and raised a gun, we all jumped in shock, he aimed the gun and then bang.
Carl fell back on the bed, a bullet hole in his forehead. I looked around trying to work out who shot him. Kaycee was standing there, the revolver raised and the barrel steaming slightly. “Looks like Kaycee is able to use the gun now” Ebony said jokingly “Let’s grab their guns, just in case that happens again” Tom said walking over and grabbing their guns. He handed a Desert Eagle to me and a Glock to Shannon. Shae walked out of Jess’s room and grabbed the shotgun. “What do we do with the guy in the lounge?” Shae asked “He was part of the group which shot at us but…” Tom said “We can’t just kill people, we should let him go, he personally didn’t do anything” Shiro said “You’re right, we should give him a kitchen knife and some food and water, without he will die out there” Ebony said “Jess, do you have something we can use to move him?” Kaycee asked “I think there might be a pallet mover in the shed, I’ll go get it” Jess said “I’ll go with you” Shannon said, they both left and returned a short time later with a pallet mover. They parked it beside the couch, I took some cushions off it and laid them on the mover. Tom and James pushed him off the couch and he rolled onto the pallet mover. James and Tom wheeled the trolley outside, Shannon and Shae grabbed some food and Kaycee and Shiro stayed behind to try their best to clean up the blood on the floor the rest of us followed James and Tom outside.
The trolley rumbled as it went down the gravel driveway, James and Tom stopped it at the end of the drive, Shannon put the food and water on the ground and I put my knife down on the ground. We turned around and walked back down the driveway while pushing the trolley and went inside. Shiro walked into the lounge, grabbed a chair from the dining room table and leant it against the front door to stop it from opening. “What do we do now?” James asked “Move the bodies, we can’t keep them in here” Shannon said “But where do we put them?” Shiro asked “We don’t really have anywhere to put them but the road, otherwise zombies will swarm towards the smell” Jess said. Tom went outside and brought the trolley into Jess’s room, Kaycee, Shannon, James and I grabbed an arm each of the first man and lifted him onto the trolley, Ebony, Shae, Jess and Shiro lifted the other body. Tom wheeled the trolley back to the front room, we lifted the final body onto the trolley and wheeled the trolley outside. We walked once more down the driveway, then down the road. Shiro and I walked back to Jess’s neighbour’s house to collect the animals before walking back home.  Tom had left the trolley there with the bodies on, we walked back to Jess’s house and slept through the night.
