I slept horribly, picture of Mrs Murphy’s throat being ripped open and almost being killed by Shiro’s brother. The pictures continued until I was woken by my alarm. My eyes flicked open instantly and I saw that everyone else was still asleep. I got up and woke everyone up quietly. I opened the pantry and pulled out all the boxes of cereal in cupboard and opened the fridge. The light in the fridge didn’t turn on, I touched the milk and it was warm. “Crap, well the power is gone” I said quietly “Plain cereal for breakfast it is”. I walked over to grab the flashlight from under the sink “If the power is out its going to be dark” I thought. Everyone dragged themselves from their bed and sat down for a bowl of dry cereal. We sat there in silence and quickly finished eating. “Everyone ready to go?” I asked “Yeah, let’s just get this over with” Tom said sleepily. We grabbed our weapons; I went and looked out the blinds in the rumpus “Ok, it’s all clear, let’s go”. We walked out into the street and we were met with the same chill as yesterday.
We walked along the street, stepping quietly and holding our weapons tight but no zombies came out. “Where is that coming from?” Shannon asked pointing to a giant smoke cloud floating above the houses “It looks like it may be coming from the school” Shiro said, Shae gasped “We left the ovens on in the kitchen, they must have set the school on fire!”, “Maybe it was a good thing, the zombies aren’t near here, maybe there are moving towards the fire” Jess said “It should make us getting food and then coming back easier” “Let’s get going before the zombies get bored” I said. We began walking faster still fearful of being attacked at any moment.
We made it to Aldi without any hassle “Come on, let’s get food and get out of here!” Tom said “Wait, we should clear it out before collecting any food to make sure we aren’t attacked when we don’t expect it” I said “We take an aisle each and clear it out, everyone ready?” “Let’s go” everyone said in synchronisation. As we walking into Aldi we were greeted by a cool blast. “Guess that means no one has been in here or left since the power went out” Shae said “But that could mean that all the people who were in here still are” Shannon said. We stepped inside and moved to an aisle each in the same order we were sitting in class the day before. Tom took the first aisle, I took the second, then Shannon, Shiro, Shae and Jess. We got ready and started marching down the aisle.
The first zombie was in Shannon’s aisle, Shannon held her crowbar tight and swung quickly down, imbedding the curve of the crowbar in the zombies skull. As the body of the zombie fell to the floor, Shannon quickly lifted the crowbar leave a hole with the brain visible. The next zombie came in Tom’s aisle, the zombie began stumbling towards him, he held tightly onto the handle of the sledgehammer, he swung upwards under the chin of the zombie, its head snapped backwards with a sickening crack as it fell backwards the Tom swung down again caving in the zombies skull. The third zombie was in Shiro’s aisle, she swung the axe down and embedding between its shoulder and neck, she pulled it out and swung it down again in its head splitting the top half in two. Two zombies were in Shae’s aisle, she raised the nail gun and pulled the trigger once while aiming at the first zombie, driving three nails into its skull. She then swung round and aimed at the other and fire again, this time sending two nails into its forehead and a single nail into its left eye. A single zombie was in Jess’s lane, she swung her axe at its leg and severed its muscles causing it to fall to the ground, she then swung down again swiftly removing the head of the zombie. A single zombie was in my aisle, its head leaning slightly forward, I swung the shovel downwards, catching the zombie in the back of the head; I forced its head down to the floor, shattering its skull between the floor and my shovel.
I continued marching along my aisle, even though from what I could see it was empty. I reached the end at about the same time the others did. We looked at each other and nodded, as if to say ‘It’s clear, let’s get food and leave’. We grabbed out bags and began shovelling canned food, chocolate and fizzy drink and bottles of water into our bags until no more could fit. We promptly left and walked back to my house without a hassle. By the time we got back it was only 8:30 in the morning, we still had a whole day to kill; we walked inside and sat down on the couch. “What do we do now, we have food and water and we don’t really need anything else” Shae said “We could work towards making this house safer, or finding somewhere new” Tom suggested “We don’t have any wood in the garage but I think we have some cardboard or something out there if you want to try that” I said “Ok, well we will need people to be putting up the cardboard and others keeping on lookout” Shiro said “Does anyone know how to drive?” I asked “Yeah, I got my L plates recently and so did Jess, why?” Asked Shannon “Because of anything goes wrong we need to get out of here quickly, but we won’t all fit in one car, so I was thinking, two people work on the barricade, two people are on look out and the final two go and find a vehicle which we can all fit in. We have bikes which we could use to find a vehicle quicker”, “So, who goes and finds a vehicle?” Shae asked “Well, I have to, I’m the one who knows how to drive” Shannon answered “I’ll go with you then” I said.
We walked into the garage and grabbed two bikes. I looked over and spotted two stretchable elastic hooks. I walked over and grabbed them, “Here, use one of these so you don’t have to hold your crowbar while riding” She grabbed it and put one hook around her crowbar, then slid the elastic over her shoulder before placing the other hook on the crowbar, I did the same “Thanks” Shannon said quietly. I reached over and tried pressed the button to open the garage door, nothing happened, “That’s right, the powers out” I whispered to myself. I walked over to where the motor for the garage door hung overhead; I jumped and pulled on the small, red handle connected to the motor, as I pulled it I heard a small click. “There, door should be able to be opened now, I’ll hold the door up, could you wheel the bikes through” I asked Shannon “Ok” she replied quietly. Shannon wheeled the bikes under the garage door, I slowly lowered the garage door back to the ground and got on my bike. “Where should we try first?” I asked “We should get a 4 wheel drive, so that if we have to run over zombies, they don’t affect the car too much, but we also need it to have quite a bit of gas otherwise we have to go to the gas station.” Shannon answered. Just as we were about to leave, Jess comes running out of the house, “I have an idea for something we could drive, but it may be a bit risky getting it” “What is it?” Shannon asked “The Somerville school bus…” Jess said quietly “Are you serious! You want us to go to where the zombies are gathering and grab a bus!” Shannon said loudly, I remained silent in thought “It was just a suggestion” Jess said “It’s a good idea” I say quietly “What!” Shannon shouts “The bus has heaps of room for us and supplies; it’s big and sturdy so it should be ok against zombies and the school refills the tank after every excursion” I reply “Well I’m not going back to that school, not with all the zombies there” Shannon said quieting down slightly “Fine then, I’ll go” Jess said. Jess grabbed the bike off Shannon and took the elastic hook, wrapping it around her axe. “All set?” I asked “Yeah let’s go” Jess said. We hopped on the bikes and started riding down the road as Shannon walked back inside.
