It had been 2 months since Riley had told Nate that she was raped at Daniels party he had persuaded her to tell Cal and Marsha they were devastated for Riley but they both knew that they had to be strong for her
With the help of everyone Riley had built up the courage to tell the police about what had happened the man who had raped her was sentenced to 3 years in prison due to there being enough evidence against him proving that he was guilty
Riley had been going to therapy sessions to help her cope with the trauma that she had experienced she had realised that talking about her issues did help it was a good feeling to know that she wasn't alone and she had people that loved and supported her no matter what
Things between Nate and Riley were going well the more time they were spending together the closer they were getting Nate wanted to make Riley his girlfriend but he knew it wasn't ideal at the minute especially with no one knowing about their secret relationship the truth is they were both scared about how people would react although Nate was no longer involved with Maddy Riley knew her friendship with her would be ruined if she found out
Riley had been going to stay with Mason every other weekend it did her good to get away every so often when Mason had been told about what had happened to Riley he felt this anger build up inside of him he hated the fact that he wasn't able to protect his sister but all he could do was be there for her and he was doing a good job of it
Present day
Riley had picked Nate up from her therapy session it made him feel good knowing that Riley was getting the help she needed
They both got into the car as Nate began driving Riley had realised that he was taking a different route
"Nate this isn't the way home where are you going?" Riley asked confused
Nate turned to look at her for a second he had a huge smirk on his face
"That because we're not going home" Nate said
Riley looked as baffled as ever she had a feeling Nate had planned something but she couldn't work out what it could be
"You know I hate surprises Nate just tell me where we're going" Riley begged
"You'll have to wait till we get there" Nate teased
Riley was filled with anticipation for the rest of the car journey she was curious to see what Nate was up to
Nate had parked the car They both got out Riley looked around to see that they were next to a forest She looked at Nate with a confused look on her face
"Come with me Ri" he said as he held her hand and led her into the forest
"Is this the part where you kill me" Riley joked as they walked further into the forest
Nate laughed at Riley's comment
Nate stood behind Riley and covered her eyes with his hands
Nate guided Riley to walk a little bit further until they got to the spot
Nate removed his hands from her eyes and stood beside her
Riley looked In front of her to see a Picnic blanket on the floor covered in rose petals with her favourite foods laid out and there were small candles dotted around
Riley's eyes lit up at the romantic gesture Nate had planned for her she felt overwhelmed with joy no one had ever done anything like this for her before
"Nate this is beautiful" Riley exclaimed as she kissed him on the cheek
Nate smiled at her reaction he loved seeing Riley like this
The pair sat down on the blanket together
"Before we do anything else there's something I want to ask you Ri" Nate said
Riley looked at him curiously
"Okay go ahead" she said softly
Nate looked nervous for a split second Riley had noticed and wondered what he was about to ask her
"You've been through so much and I'm so proud at the way your handling it all I just want you to know that you deserve all the happiness in the world and I want to be that happiness for you so what I'm trying to say is will you be my girlfriend Ri?" Nate asked as he held onto Rileys hand
Riley felt overwhelmed by Nates question she had never been made to feel so wanted by anyone before and Nate asking her to be his girlfriend meant everything and more to her he had proved to Riley that he really did care about her
"Yes of course I'll be you'll girlfriend!" She said happily as she crashed her lips onto Nates they kissed for a second they then pulled back
Nate looked at her in awe he had never felt like this about anyone before not even Maddy he was overjoyed that Riley had said yes he couldn't have felt happier
"Riley i just want you to know that when we're ready to tell people about us that their opinion won't mean shit to me the only opinion I care about is yours" Nate stated honestly
Riley smiled at his words she knew that they would have to tell people eventually but for now she didn't have to worry about it all she cared about in that moment was her and Nate nothing else mattered
"I love you Nate" Riley said as she said rested her head on his shoulder
He turned to look at her with a soft smile on his face
"I love you too Ri" Nate said as he wrapped his arms around Riley
For the first time in Riley's life she felt at peace she never imagined anyone would ever love her the way Nate did things hadn't always been smooth sailing for the pair but they continued to come back to each other and bring genuine happiness into each others life's despite all the bad things going on around them they had found something that neither of them ever expected to find they had each other and that was all that mattered.
