Winter turned to spring, and the route the bus took was lined with flowering trees and cool sunshine. The cold was gone, now replaced with gentle breezes and stronger sun rays. In theory, Vivi thought that was something to happy about.Vivi had probably never felt worse in her life. She had just made friends, and now she'd lost them. After the fight, Vivi had barely seen any of them, except for Heejin and Hyunjin and Sooyoung, but even that could feel forced at times. It wasn't the same, being away from Haseul and Jungeun. Vivi hadn't seen them in literal weeks. She knew they still went to school, of course, but if she ever saw them coming she fled the room. Vivi didn't want to subject herself to seeing their happiness without her. They didn't make an effort to talk to her, and that got the message through just fine.
People talked, of course, so Vivi knew what happened after the fight. Haseul and Jinsoul were, according to peers, back to best friends instead of girlfriends, and Jinsoul and Jungeun were dating. Vivi was happy for Jungeun, at least. She wondered if Jungeun held a grudge against her, although she knew that made no sense. Vivi wasn't the one who ratted her out. Vivi wanted to ask but she was scared of the answer.
Her days were more lonely now. She was back to her routine of school, work, and sleep. It was the same as it had been before meeting Haseul, but somehow getting a taste of something different made it feel that much worse. Now Vivi knew how it felt to have friends, to have something else to live for. She wanted that feeling of freedom back. But that wouldn't happen.
She tried not to wonder how Haseul was doing. She tried to do anything but think about them, but that was almost impossible. She cared so much, too much. It was killing her. She didn't even want to get out of bed. Vivi didn't if she didn't have to, she barely got by anymore. If she thought she hated her life before Haseul, she hated it even more afterwards. What had she done wrong?
Vivi was stupid. She should've known they never really liked her. Maybe this was an excuse for Haseul to drop her, maybe they were all hoping for that. Vivi couldn't blame them, she couldn't do anything right.
"Watch it!" A student barked at her as he and Vivi knocked shoulders, Vivi too deep in thought to move out of the way for him. It was just after the final class before lunch, and people were rushing to get out of their classes.
"S-sorry," Vivi tried to apologize, but he was already halfway down the hall when the words were out of her mouth. The stream of students has lessened now, so Vivi got through the crowd with less resistance.
She was going to the roof, like she always used to do. It was quiet, and Vivi could watch the students on the campus below. No one ever went up there except for her, so no one would bother her.
Then, as if her day was full of bad luck, Jung Jinsoul turned the corner of the hallway and walked purposefully towards her, clearing coming in her direction. Vivi froze, looking anywhere but the brunette and trying to make herself as small as possible.
"Vivi!" Jinsoul called. Vivi wanted to die. "I know you can hear me," Jinsoul said as she got closer, raising an eyebrow. "Come with me,"
Vivi hesitated. "Why?"
Jinsoul didn't answer her, just grabbed Vivi's arm and pulled her down the hallway. Vivi didn't resist, but she didn't exactly like this idea.
Oh my god, was Jinsoul going to beat her up? Maybe Jinsoul had heard about Vivi's crush and decided to take revenge, even if she didn't like Haseul anymore. Maybe it was a possessive best friend thing, should Vivi be trying to escape?
"Are you going to hit me?" Vivi questioned softly.
"Hit you?" Jinsoul looked back at her as they walked. "Why would I do that?"
