(trigger warning for death/mentions of death and ghosts/demons)
(author's note: this chapter can be considered canon to my plot line or not canon. if you hate it, then it doesn't have to exist. it's just a nice fluff chapter after all that poetic angst.)
REQUESTED BY KbaeStar
It was Saturday. At long last. My dream last night had been relatively normal (thanks to Frank) and now I had a free day all to myself. I was gonna play some guitar with Mikey, but he had a date with this girl named Elizabeth. Elizabeth was mostly nice, but she never really talked to me or the rest of "The Social Rejects" table. She also hung out with this clique of cheerleaders that didn't seem to like us very much, especially after the school mascot incident in the football field. I think one of the cheerleaders was dating Chase — the guy who was inside the dog suit — or something, so when I slapped the mascot for bullying me and then immediately after Ray tackled him and Mikey kicked him, it's pretty likely that the girls decided that they weren't too fond of us.
Actually, I think Frank helped Ray take down Chase that day. Frank and Ray were kind of acquaintances since they got lessons from the same guitar teacher at some point... which gave me an idea. I ran into Mikey's room, grabbed his electric guitar by the neck, sped back into my own room, placed Mikey's guitar on the floor, grabbed my own electric, and sat criss-cross next to both instruments.
"Frank," I called quietly. After a few seconds, he appeared in front of me, raising an eyebrow. I smiled. "Hey, Frank," I greeted.
Over the past month, Frank and I had become friends. It was a little strange and confusing, but also usually convenient because he was dead and therefore able to appear in front of me at basically any time and wasn't very busy.
"Is that a guitar?" Frank asked.
"Yep," I confirmed. "You played the guitar at one point in your life, right?"
Frank nodded very vigorously with zero hesitation and grinned. My smile got wider, showing off my teeth. I noticed that he was really energetic all the time when I got to know him.
"You wanna play with me?" I asked.
Frank's smile seemed to cover his whole face, gleaming in his eyes and stretching on his lips. I took that as a yes and picked up my electric, lifting the strap over my head and resting it on my shoulder. I carefully cradled my instrument in my hands as Frank slung Mikey's strap over his shoulder and smiled down at his guitar as if he was enjoying the feeling of holding one in his arms.
"So what all do you know how to play?" Frank asked, lifting his head up from Mikey's guitar to look me in the eyes.
I took a short moment to appreciate his hazel eyes that looked almost golden with joy right now as they seemed to stare into the depths of my soul. Frank was smart like that, and he would try to read a person's expression if he could. He usually knew when I was lying and when I was being honest, but I never had to be smart like Frank to know when he was telling the truth. Frank was very blunt and told everything as it was unless he was trying to comfort you. Usually when you're being comforted, you don't want to know whether the person who's comforting you is lying or not.
I snapped out of my trance. That wasn't really a short moment like I wanted it to be. My brain tended to ramble. "I think I know pretty much every chord," I started, "And I know a lot of rock songs."
Frank seemed to think to himself for a moment, but didn't break eye contact with me. Just zoned out. "Have you ever listened to Mother Mother?"
I scrunched my eyebrows together. "I'll take that as a no," Frank jested. "Well, I hadn't listened to it, either, but I was introduced to it by your friend Ray in the waiting room after his guitar lesson and before mine. We used to have the same guitar teacher." I noticed that Frank did a lot of hand gestures as he spoke.
