Gabby’s POV:

I needed my dad here more than I could have ever imagined. I’d spent so many valuable days avoiding my house because of Bridget. Valuable days that I could’ve spent by his side, laughing, talking…just anything would’ve been better than the blank void that I was left with.

I had been sitting by his bedside for hours before any sign of movement came from him.

The slight twitch in the hand that was enclosed by my own was enough to make me sit bolt upright.

“Wesley! WES!” I screamed at him. Poor soul was sleeping in the chair next to me, he hadn’t had any sleep since the night before and was absolutely knackered. So was I, but of course I couldn’t sleep at the possibility of my dad waking up. “Get a doctor!!” I shrieked and gripped my dad’s hand tighter.

Wes bolted out of his seat and called down the corridor immediately.

“It’s going to be okay dad! You’re going to be okay…” I murmured, bringing his hand to my lips and kissing it gently. It was more for my reassurance than his, I knew he was fighting hard.

The doctor hurriedly rushed into the room and ushered me away from him. Wes was standing there waiting for me by the door with his arms outstretched. I ran into him, his strong arms giving me the reassurance that I needed.

He held me tightly as I watched my dad slowly wake up, the doctor assessing that everything was going to be okay. I gasped slightly as his eyes fully opened, searching around the hospital room in fright.

“Dad…” I choked out feeling tears of joy spring at my eyes. Wes tightened his grip and rested his head on mine, I could tell he was feeling everything that I was right now. This moment was magical, watching someone you loved so much waking up again after expecting that you’d lost them forever.

“Gabby…” my dad whispered as his eyes locked onto mine. I could see the relief cross through his eyes as he saw me standing a metre away.

“I just wanted to say thank you for saving my life Jared…honestly, this accident was all my fault…and if it wasn’t for you swerving I wouldn’t be here right now…I just I can’t believe that you would risk your life for me!” Wes breathed, I noticed how he was choking up slightly and took his hand in mine, squeezing it gently.

“It wasn’t your fault kid! I was the one texting while driving, and plus as soon as I saw your face I knew that I had to do everything I could to prevent as much damage to you as possible!” dad explained gently, his voice was a little bit croaky still from lack of use but it was still the familiar voice that I loved.

“No really! If I had have been concentrating more on the road then it wouldn’t have happened in the first place!” Wes argued. I rolled my eyes and held my hand up in defence so that my dad would know not to retaliate.

“Can we just all agree that you were both idiots and that you should never do it again?” I announced sternly. My dad chuckled and Wes shoved me gently.

“Is little ole Gabby worried about us?” Wes teased.

“Yes” I stated in all seriousness. “I could’ve lost both of you…do you know how hard that was?!” I whined.

“My little girl is finally being soppy for once…am I still drugged or something?” my dad joked, causing me to roll my eyes again. Wes cracked up laughing and fist-bumped him.

“Gabby?” Drew asked uncertainly, his voice wavering ever so slightly. All our heads turned to face the door in an instant. What was he doing here? More to the point, what was he doing here NOW instead of when I really needed him?
