Gabby’s POV:
“I still can’t believe I got a detention on my first day of school…this is like so ridiculous! Tonight we have to do something fun to make up for all the lost time in detention!” Mary muttered as we walked through the hallways on our way to the detention classroom.
“Should I be scared about YOUR definition of fun?” I chuckled as she shot me a cheeky grin. It had only taken an average school day to completely fall in love with Mary’s personality. Everyone she met basically adored her from the first word that came out of her mouth, she was just that kind of person.
I was surprised when she had stuck by me the whole day considering she could’ve made friends with the populars or something. I wasn’t complaining though, at times like this I needed a friend who could take my mind of things and make me laugh.
“Oh sweet Jesus, that boy is fit!! I’d like to do some nasty things to him in bed…” she whispered under her breath so that only I could hear.
“Mary!!” I shrieked and slapped her on the arm, my mouth wide open. She threw back her head in laughter, amused by the plain shock written across my face. She turned back to Drew and shot him a flirty wave. A smirk spread across his face and he started walking in our direction. For the first time since I’d left Drew my heart didn’t flutter, there were no butterflies and I didn’t feel any longing towards him. I smiled to myself at the thought and looked up to find him grinning at me.
“Hey Gabby, how’s it going?” A genuine smile was spread across his face but I could still see the worry in his eyes. I knew he didn’t just mean it as a casual gesture, he actually wanted to know how things were with me right now.
“Hey Drew! Everything’s going great! Mary here was just telling me how fine you were…” I trailed off and looked over at Mary with a smug smirk on my face. She gaped at me as Drew burst into laughter at the look on her face. Her cheeks began to burn as she poked her tongue out at me.
“You bitch!” she hissed but there was laughter in her voice.
“Sorry! I can’t help it, I like setting people up!” I chuckled. Drew rolled his eyes at the exact same time as Mary and I burst into laughter once again. “You guys are like soul mates or something…” I teased.
Now it was Drew’s turn to blush as he looked over at Mary. They locked eyes and looked down sheepishly. It was an odd sight considering both of them are pretty outgoing people and now all of a sudden they were shy.
“Maybe you should come out with us tonight, so I can get to know you better…” Mary almost whispered, looking up at him again with a timid expression on her face. His eyes lit up at the thought.
“Where are you going?”
“We don’t know yet, but hopefully we’ll figure that out in detention!” Mary exclaimed excitedly. They were like two excited puppies all of a sudden and it made me want to gag. Not that I didn’t think it wasn’t cute…but it was because of the fact that it was cute.
“Okay, well text me when you sort things out yeah?” he asked, looking over at me slightly and pretending that he didn’t know my number. “Can I get your number? So you know…you can text me…” he grinned. She nodded and they exchanged numbers quickly.
“See you tonight!” she squealed, her voice sounding so high-pitched and unnatural. She cleared her throat and laughed at herself. “Well that was awkward…”
“Bye Drew” I chuckled and held out my arms for him. He grinned and stepped into my arms, wrapping his firmly around my waist while I placed mine around his neck. I melted into his touch like I normally would. Something about Drew’s hugs always made me feel like I was protected no matter what.
