Mono jolted awake with a gasp. Drawing in several sharp breaths, he looked around only to realize he was in a very, very familiar place.
The forest.
As usual, he had hardly any memories of sitting in the chair for years, but he knew it had still happened. Letting out a deep sigh, he stood up, and dusted himself off. It was time to do everything all over again. But this time, something felt different. He felt different. It didnt take him very long to understand why. He had been trapped in the loop for so long that his patience had finally faded. He didnt want to accept that this was his fate anymore.
Yeah. Things were about to change. He was sure of it. Almost feeling a twinge of excitement, he began his journey across the forest. This time he was going to have to figure out how to do things differently. He had tried to long ago to no avail. But he was going to try again. He had to! This couldnt be all there was to him.
And this couldnt be all there was to Six. He knew she wasnt a traitor. She was a good friend. She was sweet, and goofy. Most of the time. He found himself smiling as he thought about it, but he quickly brushed the thoughts away. He had to focus on how he was going to change things. He paused in front of a metal tunnel, and pulled on the door. He stumbled backwards as it flung upwards, before carefully crouching down and entering through it. Once he emerged through the other side, he cringed at the smell of rotting corpses. Continuing forward without even glancing at the bag full of bodies, he soon came across a log that hung over a ravine.
Carefully stepping up on top of it, he made his way across, though his mind was still elsewhere. He jumped down onto the other side, and stumbled. "Time to get past the traps," He muttered. He continued forward until he finally stopped in front of the rope that stretched out slightly above the ground. He hopped over it with ease and continued forward. He kept going forward, before finding a small tunnel.
Letting out a frustrated groan, he crouched down and began passing underneath it. He hated this part. As soon as he emerged on the other side, he heard the creaking behind him, and broke out into a run. The log crashed loudly behind him as it rolled, before finally coming to a stop at a tree. Slowing down, he let out a relieved sigh, and continued forward. His thoughts shifted to Six as he walked along.
Now that he really thought about it, every single time he went through this, he was always excited to see her despite what she had done to him. Smiling faintly, he finally came across the broken bridge. He carefully jumped down onto the ledge, before using the other half of the bridge to climb up. He knew with each step he took he was getting closer to Six. Brushing back his excitement, he continued to push forward, until he found a familiar mound of leaves.
Picking up a nearby shoe, he lazily threw it in. Almost immediately, a snap was heard and a net came flying up out of the leaves with the shoe inside of it. He shook his head faintly, and walked on. He was quick to find the area full of beartraps, and was just as quick to get past it. Setting off chain reactions of beartraps was surprisingly entertaining. And that's when he finally found it. The creepy old rundown house just sitting in the middle of the forest. By now, it felt more welcoming than creepy, because he knew Six was waiting somewhere in there.
He entered carefully, and made his way through the house. When he heard the music box playing, he quickened his pace and went to find the axe. Grabbing it quickly, he made his way to the room. He raised it up, and hit the door. As usual, the music stopped playing, and he heard something from within the room shuffling against the floor. He hit the door several more times until he made a gap he could slip through. Dropping the axe, he made his way into the room.
He could make out the outline of Six sitting beneath the table. Feeling himself smile, he approached slowly and carefully, before kneeling down and holding out his hand. "Hey there," He whispered. "You dont have to be scared, I'm here to help. My name is Mono."
Six shifted forward without saying anything, and reached out. Mono knew exactly what would happen next, so he braced himself. Instead of grabbing his hand, Six shot up to her feet and shoved him aside, running through the gap he created before. Mono jumped up to his feet, and gave chase, "Wait up!"
He ran up the stairs, and climbed up the shelf before tumbling into the next room.Standing up carefully, he watched as Six jumped up and attempted to pull the ladder down using the handle. Mono waited patiently as Six hopped down and realized that she couldnt do it herself. He heard her sigh, before she looked back at him.
"Uhm.. Mono, right..? Uh- can I maybe get some help?" She asked. Mono grinned despite knowing Six wouldnt be able to see his smile through the paper bag, and nodded.
He approached Six carefully, and let her boost him up to the handle. He grabbed onto it, and Six jumped up and grabbed onto his legs. Together, they managed to pull it down all the way, and the ladder descended onto the ground. Releasing his grip, both he and Six fell back down. Standing up, Mono looked back at Six. His smile fell, and he sighed. He really wished he could tell her everything.
He wished they could both find a way to break this loop together, but he knew he had to do it alone.
"My names Six, by the way." Mono snapped out of his thoughts once Six spoke.
"Well, it's really nice to meet you," He responded, smiling once again. He then watched Six turn away, and begin to climb up the ladder. And then he felt something he hadn't felt in a long time.
Hope.
