"I know what I said, but I'm running behind schedule. Britt couldn't pick up the cake yesterday, and the car seat just came into Target," Sam said to the speaker phone, as she flicked her hair out of her jacket. "No, I know. But since the kids are at school I have time to go pick up the car seat," she replied to the person on the other end. "No, I'm taking your car. How can I take the SUV when you took it this morning to get it detailed after work?" Sam asked. "I don't care. Gene is coming with me. She's going to help me pick up the cake, the car seat and my package from the office downstairs," Sam said, before hanging up with her husband. She had a million and one things to do with her son's birthday party and her doctor's appointment and her new baby items coming in.
"Hey, slut. Avie is standing by the door calling your name. Are you ready?" Gene asked, clutching her jacket to her body. Sam nodded, grabbing her husband's car keys and heading towards the entrance of her house. Sam nodded, pushing into her phone into her pocket.
"Yeah. Let's stop by the office and get Zeek present, before my appointment. We can pick up the cake and car seat afterwards," Sam said. Gene handed her sister her diaper bag and picked up her toddler.
"Sam. Are we gonna see the baby?" Avie asked, as the family walked out of the apartment. Sam nodded, shutting her door and locking it.
"Yes, ma'am are you ready to see your cousin?" Sam asked. Avie nodded, wrapping her arms around her mother's neck.
"I want another girl! Zeekie is gross," Avie mumbled. Sam dropped her head, trying not to laugh.
"Avie...Zeek is gross," Sam chuckled. Avie nodded, while her mother hit the elevator button to take them to the office.
11:22 AM
Sam wiped her stomach off as her doctor printed out the pictures of her unborn baby. "Fetus, looks good. Legs are moving, arms are growing, heartbeat is continuous and strong." Dr. Meg smiled, handing off the folded paper to Sam. "Any questions?" She asked.
"Yes, ma'am. Just one. When will I be able to find out what I'm having?" Sam asked, pulling up her black and white gym shorts and pulling her t-shirt down.
"Oh, we can do that as soon as 14 weeks, but it's more accurate at 18 weeks and farther," she answered. "Planning on doing a gender reveal?" Dr. Meg asked. Sam hopped off the exam table and grabbed her purse.
"I don't know, yet. I want to. My friends said they had something planned if I wanted it," Sam replied. The doctor shut her laptop and opened the door for her patient.
"Oh, that's sweet. Well at your next appointment we can work out how you want the gender transferred to you," she said. "The nurse will set up your next appointment and I'll see you next month. Take care of that baby and Dr. Kaiser can't wait to see Zeek later today!" She said. Sam nodded, and moved to the front of the office.
1:54 PM
Sam helped her son into her husband's car, and buckled him in. "Hi, GG! Hi, Avie," Zeek smiled, dropping his backpack on the floor. "Mommy, am I having cake today?" Zeek asked. Sam shut the door on her son and got in the passenger's side.
"Yeah, but first we have to go to the doctors and Target," Sam said.
"I love the doctors!"
-
"I hate the doctors!" Zeek, slumped into his seat, picking at the bandaid from his shot. Sam reached back, slapping her son's hand away, while Avie gladly ate his lollipop.
"Did you steal that from him?" Gene asked, seeing her daughter eating something she didn't give to her.
"No," Avie smirked, smacking her lips. "He threw it at me," she answered. Sam shook her head, not even caring. Avie and Zeek went back and forth like siblings, so she and Gene weren't fazed by their antics.
"Alright, let's go to Target, and get home before everyone else shows up," Sam said, giving Gene the green light to leave the parking lot.
4:13 PM
Sam and Gene dropped their kids off at home with April to finish getting Zeek's presents and the rest of his party items. "You ready to do this for Avie?" Sam asked, putting her seat belt on, starting her husband's car. Gene shook her head.
"She's turning 4 and I can't believe it. She's so well spoken. It drives me insane," Gene chuckled. Sam pulled out of the parking garage towards her first destination.
"Should we get food? I'm kind of starving, but my brains says wait til the party,"
"What did you get for the party? Chicken nuggets from chick-fil-a? You're not going to want that," Gene said. Sam agreed, skidding off to find some food.
"I can't wait for this day to be over," Sam muttered. Her back was killing her, the baby was moving a lot, and she was exhausted. "Do you think if we get back by 5:30, I can take a quick nap. This baby is doing a number on my sleep patterns. He had me up at 2 AM, because he was ready to get up and play in my ribcage," she continued. Gene shrugged, taking a deep sigh.
"I don't know if I want another baby. Hearing you complain, plus the fact that Nick and I haven't had sex since...." she trailed off, "means Avie could end up an only child," Gene mumbled. Sam knew what her sister meant. She wished she and Matt hadn't had Zeek so close to the twins. Because she hadn't let her body heal between pregnancies, she was paying the price.
8:45 PM
The adultas hung around Sam's apartment while kids went to bed. "This was a great party, Sam. I know Jack had fun," Courtney smiled.
"Yeah and thanks bask for letting Rev spend the night. I know she's going to miss the girls when you guys leave," Anna said, sipping her drink.
"Oh yeah, how long do you guys have left here?" Andrea asked sitting on Nate's lap.
"We get the keys in a couple of weeks, so Gene and Nick are moving in when we get the keys. But, our lease is up in a few months, so that's when we are heading out. I'm excited. We are going to be closer to the theater district and it's going to be cheaper to have all of us in one house," Sam answered. The girls nodded, watching their friend sip on her water.
"Isn't it weird how the only one of us that hated kids, ends up with most of them," Nichole chuckled. Sam dropped her head, giggling along with them.
"I know. And when they get on my last nerve, it feels like a sick dream," she muttered, throwing her head and body back into the couch allowing Britt, who was slightly tipsy, to lay into Sam's stomach. She didn't mind though, the warmth and pressure was sort of nice.
"Babe, I'm heading to bed, I gotta get up early tomorrow," Matt called before saying his goodbye to their friends. Sam nodded, watching her husband grab a water bottle and head to their room. He was staying on top of his p's and q's, hitting every mark, and making sure his program was being worked. Sam was proud of him. He was turning around and she could finally breathe easy for a moment.
