Yo stifled a yawn while gently rocking his sleeping daughter. Normally she was such a good baby, but last night she'd kept him up until the wee hours, first wanting to eat, then being fussy, then he had to change her diaper, then she cried at him again and he couldn't figure out what she wanted, but luckily got her to settle down before she woke up Pha. So, Yo had ended up spending the whole night on the couch, blearily watching whatever on the TV on low volume while cradling his daughter to his chest.
Needless to say, the poor young mother was utterly exhausted. And was daydreaming about getting back to his bed for a nap. Pronto.
Montree sat across from him, picking tiredly at his lunch, while the rest of their friends chattered away happily without really noticing how quiet Yo and Montree were. Except for Cake. She glanced at the two in slight concern, hoping they were okay.
"I think I might skip this afternoon," Yo covered his mouth to hide a yawn. He was too tired to make himself stay awake for much longer. "I'm exhausted."
Montree lifted his head. "Do you have a ride home?"
"P'Pha doesn't have a class until two. I can ask him to take me back," Yo smiled.
"Okay. Lemme know if you need any help."
Cake turned to Montree. "Something wrong? You seem down for some reason."
Montree screwed his mouth to the side. "Nah, not really down. Couldn't sleep well last night. Kept tossing and turning."
"Don't you usually spend the night with Good now?" Cake squinted in thought. She was certain Good and Montree now spent the night in each other's room instead of by themselves.
"Yeah, but he wasn't able to come over last night," Montree sighed sadly, stretching his arms out and pushing his plate away. "I didn't have my warm teddy bear to put me to sleep this time. Damn."
"You could be us," Cake teased playfully, trying to cheer her friend up. "None of us are in relationships yet. We're single pringles and so ready to mingle."
Yo choked on a laugh. "Cake, you're bad!"
She just made a funny face at him. "Yeah, but what I said is true."
Red joined the conversation with, "I'm in a relationship with my bed. It never lets me down."
The other three giggled. Red sometimes piped up with funny jokes or comments to ease the tension. Now was no different.
While the others started teasing each other about dating inanimate objects, Yo got out his phone and dialed Pha. He seriously needed to get home, or else he'd fall asleep in his plate.
"Hi, baby. Something wrong?"
The sound of Pha's voice immediately made Yo feel a little better. "Not really. I was just hoping you could take me and Love back home?"
