Yo never told Ming before, but he'd been to jails many, many times, in order to identify the people that came after him all throughout school in the failed attempts to kidnap him. Only twice did these people come close to spiriting Yo away from his bodyguards. Twice.
And now, they were almost to the jail that was currently holding the incarcerated Muwan, her cousin Ohm, and their minions.
"Maybe we should've told them," Ming mumbled. The poor boy kept turning his phone over his hands, a nervous habit he had since childhood.
"Or maybe we did the right thing, since they would've said no."
Ming pressed his lips together, not saying another word. He knew Yo was right. Pha and Kit wouldn't like this one bit.
Yo straightened in his seat, eyes sharpening as he gazed out the window at the looming wall before them. "We're here. Get ready."
How do you get ready to see your abusive ex who's never having a free day in her life again?? Ming didn't know. He powered off his phone, grateful Kit was busy with class today, and shoved it in his pocket. A few deep breaths, and he let his face smooth into the mask of a bored, aristocratic young man who didn't care what the world thought of him. He and Yo had had to adopt such personalities at a young age when socializing with others of the elite class.
"We are honored to have the young masters visit our lowly jail." An officer opened the back passenger door and bowed his head in respect as Yo carefully got out. "If there is anything we can get you to make your time here today more comfortable, just let us know, and we'll take care of it for you."
Yo merely nodded and followed another officer inside the high wall, Ming right behind him. It was no surprise these officers were eager to please him and Ming. This jail here was established long ago by members of the Panitchayasawad family, Chaichanatham family, and the Daichapanya family. It was part of the reason the three families had grown so close, in their drive for justice back in the older days, before Chan and Addie had been born.
First was a small tour. The whole tour would be given after the two met with Muwan. Yo kept up the disinterested mask, when in reality he was disgusted with the conditions. He'd toured old-time jails in America when he was little, and even they were better quality than these! He had some things to fix around here, it seemed. The inmates were more than two to a cell, as regulations stated, and the insides of each cell was incredibly dirty. Crowded cells were a hotbed for disease and fights.
