After the long and eventful day, I'm so looking forward to crashing in my bed. The room feels cozy, with the soft glow of the moon filtering through the curtains, casting pale light across the floor.
Just as I settle into bed, Marinette's voice pulls me out of my thoughts.
"Y/n," she says quietly.
"Yeah?"
She looks at me, a little hesitantly. "I'm sorry."
"Sorry for what?"
"For putting you in danger," she sighs. "I never should've dragged you into all this superhero business."
I blink, a little caught off guard. "But I want to be involved."
Marinette's eyes soften, and a small smile tugs at her lips. "I know you do. But next time, we'll be more careful."
"So, there is a next time?" I grin, my exhaustion melting into excitement.
"Of course," she nods.
I pause, thinking back to Adrien. "But no more swapping, okay? Adrien caught on."
Marinette's face falls. "What? Why didn't you tell me sooner?"
I roll my eyes. "Well, I would've, if I wasn't stuck in a picture frame!"
She groans, rubbing her forehead. "I honestly thought it would work."
I can't help but laugh. "We'll figure something else out. I'm sure he likes you."
Tikki suddenly pops out of her bag. "Don't forget to tell her!"
Marinette looks sheepish. "Right! I'm staying at Alya's tonight—she invited me last week."
"Got it," I say, still adjusting to the quiet of the room. "Oh, and just so you know, Mom and Dad are off at that fancy hotel for a 'relaxation day,' so I'm home alone tonight."
Marinette studies me for a moment, her concern obvious. "Are you sure you're okay being here alone?"
I smile reassuringly. "I'll be fine. Just no supervillains, okay?"
"No promises," she says with a wink before heading toward the door.
Hours later, the room is thick with stillness. The clock ticks softly, and my thoughts slowly drift off to sleep. Suddenly, a tapping at my window jolts me awake. I groggily push myself out of bed and open the window.
"Who's there?" I mumble, still half asleep. A soft thump behind me makes me whirl around. "Kitty?"
"In the fur, darling," he says smoothly, his voice playful as he flops onto my bed. "So, this is your room."
I squint at him, not even bothering to hide my confusion. "You've got the wrong address. Ladybug doesn't live here."
"I'm not here for Ladybug," he grins, his green eyes sparkling in the moonlight. "I'm here for you."
"Why?" I raise an eyebrow, heart doing a little flip in my chest.
He shrugs, tapping my pillow lazily. "Couldn't sleep."
I roll my eyes. "So you just decided to show up here?"
"Well, I came to talk. But if you want to sleep, I'm open to that, too..." His grin widens mischievously.
"God," I mutter, sitting down beside him on the bed. "You realize, I have no idea who you are under that mask, right? I mean, I'm not a hundred percent sure."
He leans in, his voice dropping low. "Don't you?"
I pull back, blinking. "Don't you want to keep your secret identity?"
Cat Noir sighs, almost dramatically, as he leans back against the headboard. "What does it matter? You know me. Your favorite superhero."
"Well, what if Ladybug's my favorite?" I ask with a teasing edge, though something else flickers in my chest.
He laughs, but it's a little nervous. "Then I'll—"
"Claw me?" I finish with a smirk.
"I'd kiss you," he says with total seriousness.
I can't help but laugh, though a part of me wonders if he's actually being serious. "That doesn't sound like much of a punishment."
He leans in a little closer, his eyes glimmering in the low light. "You might change your mind."
I lean back, not entirely sure where this is going. "I still don't really know who you are."
"Yes, you do," he insists.
I hesitate, then mutter, "I do. But do I really?"
His face falls a little. "I probably shouldn't tell you."
I smile softly, teasing him. "You're too late. I already know."
He shakes his head, but his ears have perked up.
"So you've just decided to fall for me as Cat Noir, huh?" He asks, my voice a little quieter now, and the air between us feels charged.
"Let's just say you better catch me... Adrien."
