I don't know what possessed me to walk out of that mall with this boy, but right now I'm in his car and wondering why I am having this majorly, huge crush on somebody. I only know his name, don't people start crushing on somebody after that person does something that's crush-able? Okay that made sense if you don't think about it, so don't.
"I want to get to know you." His voice was soft, yet completely confident and I think that him just saying that just drew me in a little more.
"Okay, what so you want to know?" If this boy was extremely beast at this I can at least answer him without breaking my lungs. Just don't think about being in a car with him, in that tight little space, Kaitlyn. That made it worse.
"Well, everything. Family, life story, high school experiences, sports you've done. Everything. I want to be your friend, and you have to know the other person to do that." His vooooiiiiiiiiccccee.
"Okay let's play one million questions until the movie starts." He parked his car, and I went to open the door but a hand stopped me.
"No, let me." I was shocked into silence. No boy has ever opened a door for me. Not even my dad. I watched him walk around the front end of his car quickly and he gently tugged the door open taking my hand and helping me out. When Devon's hand touched mine that fire started burning again but it was a gentle fire, caressing me.
Even though we were in a movie theater parking lot, this boy just did the most romantic thing I have ever experienced. And even after he closed the door he never let go of my hand, and it was there even when he guided me to the ticket booth. I was focused on it, hoping this would last. Avoiding saying anything that caused him to drop my hand, I kept his pace.
"What was 'that movie' again?" He asked me. I told him the name and we went in to go get popcorn. It was still a half an hour until the premiere so we sat down in the back of the theater and I pulled my knees up to my chest and was facing him. He let go of my hand when we went to sit down and honestly I was really disappointed.
"Okay, to start let's do the simpler questions." His voice was hushed even though we were the only ones inside.
"Okay, what's your favorite color?" I asked.
"Emerald green, like your eyes. You?" He said it kinda nonchalantly, but it made my heart swell still.
"Baby blue, kinda like yours." I was surprised that was the actual reference. Plus I wasn't kidding his eyes are my favorite color.
"Okay," he chuckled. "Middle name?"
"Marinne, Kaitlyn Marinne Evena. Yours?"
"Chance, Devon Chance Maxwell."
"Siblings?"
"Four. My brothers are, Finnick, Josh, Dallas and my sister, Victoria. You?"
"One. My brothers are none and my sister, Jasmine."
"How old are you?"
"Eighteen in two months. You?"
"Nineteen in three months." Oh, he's a senior too.
"Favorite animal?"
"Panda. You?"
"Um, a panda." He chuckled at me.
"Dog or Cat?"
"Dog, you?
"Dog." His answer ran through me making me want to just be in his arms. How are these feelings remotely possible?
"Day or night?"
"Night, you?"
"Night."
"Flower?"
"Rose. You?"
"Rose. Tree?"
"Willow. You?"
"Stop stealing my answers!" This time he actually laughed and it was like the sweetest thing. It reminded me of Christmas time, and love. I felt warmth in his happiness.
With that we ended the simpler questions game. The next one was a little more deep.
"What sports have you done?" People started coming in so his voice lowered a little.
"Well, I tried for track a few years, and I did cheerleading freshman year... Don't judge!" I poked his cheek because he was making a weird face. With that he grabbed my hand and I giggled a little.
"You have a beautiful laugh you know." Does he read my mind and take all the compliments I could throw at him and give them to me?
"Thanks." I felt my face getting warm, and looked away to cover it up.
"I did football, not 'cause I was a jock, but because it was something to do." His whisper sent my body signals I was not going to decipher in anyway, my face got warmer and I just tried to keep a steady head so I could reply.
"How many girlfriends have you had?" This time I saw his face light up and he avoided my gaze.
"One, but she was a mistake. It was because I was the quarterback and everyone expected me to have this perfect girl on my arm. It only lasted like two months before I broke up with her. She was cheating, not that I minded. It just gave me an excuse to get out of that."
"Oh," My heart sank a little knowing he had kinda used a girl for popularity. "Um worst grade you have gotten?"
"Does an A+ count?" My eyes grew and I don't know why I believed him.
"Really?" I choked out.
He chuckled, "Yeah, college is my backup plan."
I didn't know what he meant by that but I dropped it. "I have gotten an A- once or thrice, but every B I have brought up with extra credit and stuff."
"Wow. Awesome to have another nerdy friend." He winked at me and I felt a blush crawl onto my face.
"Um any boyfriends?" He questioned me.
My blush intensified, "Not a legitimate one. Like you know middle school dating, three-four days at most. I only did it once and the boy was weird and the idea at the time kinda grossed me out." I giggled as the movie started. Like I said before, I couldn't even focus on the film.
I guess our game was paused until the next time we spoke because the car ride was a comfortable silence and when we got to my house, he opened the door like a gentleman.
"Do you want to come in?" I asked, we now stood outside my front door. Maybe he would kiss me. He froze for a second before nodding. We went inside and went into the living room where my sister and her girlfriend, Stacy, were sitting cross legged on the couch having a cute little chat.
"Mooommm, I am hommmmmee." I yelled knowing she already knew I was.
"Honey who do you have...." She stopped talking and looked at Devon. I don't know what they were doing but they were staring at each other for a few minutes.
"Ohkayyyy," I mumbled, "Guess mom drew Devon into her craziness.
"Sweetie, you know that talk I was going to have with you? I think that we should have it while our guests are here, I think both of them understand and will help your father and I explain." What? She doesn't even know Devon! Oh god, they're going to embarrass me! With that daddy walked through the door.
