Devon looked terrified, realizing that this wasn't good. I think that because he was the alpha this could mean trouble.
"Ugh." Katherine doubled over in pain. She grasped the side of her face in obvious agony. Horrified I rushed to her side keeping her upright enough. After a second she stood becoming erect, showing a strong sense of gallantry.
"Feed the kids darling. My poor love is hurt." Her voice broke for a second, and her fear became apparent before she put back on the face of determination. "Lawrence has got himself into something."
Her body was shaking as she ran outside shifting and taking off into the forest around their house.
Devon sighed running his hand through his hair. I could tell he wanted to go after his mother but fortunately he had to take care of his younger siblings. I pulled him onto a chair and reassuringly slipped onto his lap, gently placing my legs on each side of him. His head came down on my chest and I felt a shiver run down my back as I felt his hands slip up my shirt slightly to leave his bare hands on my waist. I always thought I was fat, but his hands fit around me perfectly and for the first time I felt beautiful, because he didn't seem to notice my millions of flaws.
"Stop that," he growled.
I looked down at him running my fingers through his hair softly. His hair is just as perfect as the rest of him.
"Stop what?"
"Thinking such things."
Gosh of course he heard that.
"Baby, are you okay?" I whispered bringing his chin up so he could look at me. I am terribly short compared to him, but in this position I was just slightly shorter then him.
His eyes watered slightly, but he fought it. "I will be okay when my parents come home. I am just worried. I guess I should serve the children." I went to get off of him but instead he pulled me up with him, causing my legs to wrap around his torso, as if naturally.
His lips rested on my neck as he went to the kitchen. I found myself sitting on the counter cross-legged and watching as he pulled out the food which was being kept warm in the oven. It just happened to be spaghetti and steak, with green beans, and corn as sides. He quickly made three plates for the boys.
"I'll go get them honey. Don't worry." I told him slipping off the counter.
Upstairs I managed to get Dallas and Josh headed downstairs. I couldn't find Finnick until I went in what I presume to be Devon's bedroom. I saw how neat his room is and felt pride swell at how clean it is. I recognized his familiar leather jacket hanging on a coat rack in the corner and Finnick sitting beside it with a picture frame in his hands. He was about 15 and rather adorable, in my honest opinion. His head jerked up when I entered.
"Hey Finnick-"
"Call me Finn.", He muttered his voice low. I noticed his cheeks were slightly pink and his eyes were trying hard not to well over.
I went and sat down next to him and slipped my hand into his hair, brushing it out of his eyes.
"Sweetie, I know you just met me but if there is anything, anything you need to talk about sometime's it's better to talk to someone who you can trust. And I promise I will be that person if you need me to be. You will always have me, because Devon is...I don't think I could live without him. Obviously siblings are a package deal, and I don't care what the promise I made just entitled me to, I think we could be great friends honestly and I highly doubt you would make me regret such a sentence." His eyes watered over.
His body collapsed into sobs and I found him curling into my body. I rubbed his back as he let it out, finding my eyes drawn to the picture now on the ground. I lifted it and saw five people in the picture, and found it falling back to the floor as my hand went limp as I put two and two together.
"Oh honey," I whispered half to myself and half to the boy lying on my lap.
The picture was Devon and another girl sitting between their parents. She was quite a bit shorter then Devon who was rather young at the time and Kathrine sat next to her with a baby Finn on her lap. Her husband was a clean cut man with a handsome jawline that Devon inherited from him. But the young girl.... she looks like she was so happy and a beautiful thing too.
I knew it was Devon's younger sister but not Victoria. I have to learn the story behind this just not right now. Not until Finn is okay, and Devon too. I resumed rubbing his back, and found myself singing a soft song.
I listened as Finn calmed down, and felt Devon's presence. Finn sat up, muttering an apology.
I stood helping him up too, and felt a sudden emotion that wasn't mine wash over me. Devon was in pain, and I quickly went to his side and found his hand, which held mine firmly.
"Dinner is ready Finn." His voice was low and he disguised his sadness with a fatherly tone.
"Thank's bro," Finn muttered leaving the room.
The air got extremely thick and the silence remained. I watched Devon grow weary, and did all I could think of doing. I pulled him to the bed and held him. His arms wrapped around me and I felt him. He just looked at me and his voice filled my head.
I am so sorry baby. I would have told you it's just hard. My sister Camellia, she passed away in a fire when she was ten. I was twelve, and she was my best friend. Finn overheard mom, and he is extremely worried he is going to lose dad and doesn't want to lose another person like that.
"Oh, baby, don't be sorry," I whispered kissing him softly.
"But I kept it from you."
"No you didn't. You were just not ready to talk about it. I can't know everything about you in the month we've known each other. It's not like you weren't planning to tell me," I said noticing his mood was changing into a much brighter feeling.
"Kitty Kat?" He bit his lip and I felt my heart flutter
"Devon?" His hands trailed to my hips and he pulled me onto him.
Thank you, Love.
Our lips met and I was arched over him for a minute until he moaned, pushing me onto my back causing a giggle to escape my lips.
"Why must you be so perfect?" He asked kissing me passionately.
"I don't know what you are talking about." I responded after he finally stopped for air.
"Yes you do. You are amazing in every way."
"No I'm not, but I am flattered you would even consider me being perfect."
"Shut up gorgeous!" He groaned slipping his hands up my shirt and making my body shudder.
"Babe!" I scolded, pulling his hands from beneath the soft fabric, into my own, right when the front door opened. I saw relief flash in Devon's eyes and also felt myself relax.
"Time to go see the damage inflicted on my father," he breathed.
I sat up and pushed my lips to his.
My baby better not do something this scary... Ever. Or else the wrath from me will be worse than anything another shifter could do.
He chuckled as we got up and I took a deep breath before leaving the room.
