I flipped the front door sign from close to open as I unlocked the door. Taking a deep breath, taking in my product's ever sweet aroma, I was ready for another day of work at my candy store.
The morning sun shined through the store's large windows to make my store shine in an array of colors. From the glass jars that held gumballs, gumdrops, to chocolate covered cherries. From boxes upon boxes of known to unknown candy neatly stacked among the walls, lollipops galore, from thin ones to fat ones to ones the size of your face, I have them all. Candy is my passion, but there was another passion that kept me going even on the worst of days.
*ding dong* rang the brass bell that hung over the door.
Entering through the door was a white portly duck dressed in a leather air pilot jacket, tight brown denim shorts, and had a left metal prosthetic leg. Her jacket was tight, clearly made for a smaller frame then what she was currently weighed. Her large feathery white gut hung over and out, exposed to the world without shame. The only other thing that rivaled her white feathery ball of jello was her two white balls of feathery balls of jello from behind. Barely contained in her shorts, they were nearly as wide as my door frame as she almost grazed their sides. As she walked to the counter she had an exaggerated waddle that made her large backside swing like a pendulum.
"Hey Mr. L/N! How's my favorite candy man?!" She asked loudly, tapping her fingers on the glass countertop impatiently. You can see it it was hard for to look at you as so many tempting treats lay around her.
"Della! I'm doing great," I said happy as I took a quick glance at her soft stomach pressing into my glass countertop, "what will it be today?"
Quickly going into her pocket she pulled out a large handful of gold coins and dumped them onto the countertop with a loud clunk.
"This amount!" She declared happily.
I stared at the glittering gold coins with wide eyes and a twinkle in my eyes, this was enough to buy half of my stock! I carefully picked up one of the coins and scanned over its design. It looked like an old coin made by an ancient civilization. I took a quick bite of the coin seeing if it was real, and it was!
"Take whatever you want!" I said joyfully, still staring at the coin.
"Excellent," she exclaimed while taking out a rather odd looking bag that had this weird device around its entrance.
As I began to put the coins in a bag she began stuffing her bag with sweets. I watched as she seemed to put an ungodly amount of sugary confectionery into her bag, so much more than what that bag could possibly hold.
"So what adventures have you embarked on recently," I asked, still staring at her bottomless bag.
"Oh, it's a funny story! Me and the boys were heading to an archeology dig in the alps when we crashed landed into a barren area outside the outskirts of Rome, thanks to Launchpad forgetting to fill the tanks on the Sun Chaser. Anyway, we found this underground cave that led us to an underground buried city! Oh, me and the boys bobbed and weaved through a multitude of traps like a good old fashioned spiked pit, and a crushing wall room, classics! Dewey had a blast dodging them all!" She happily exclaimed.
She's one of the few people I know that is excited about almost being crushed to death.
"But there was this one room that threw us for a loop, literally! It was this wired puzzle room filled with snakes and ladders and…" she froze. Right below her hand was a jar filled with licorice, black licorice. Her face became dark and stared at the jar like she was suffering from PTSD. Her body shivered in disguise, before moving her hand to a jar of gummy bears right next to it. Her expression returns to normal, resuming her stuffing of her black hole bag.
"Huey figured out how to pass the room by figuring out which squares on the floor were the ones to progress, I'm so proud of him! Eventually we reached the throne room and it was Louie who thought like a king on where he hid his treasure, who would have thought to look under the throne itself!"
At this point she had circled around the whole shop. I took a quick look around to see she had taken nearly half of everything (except for the black licorice) and stuffed it into her bottomless pit of a bag.
"You know, despite all of our adventures, sometimes I wonder if the boys would be better off if they had more ground parents," she said with a sigh as she leaned on to your countertop once again looking deep into your eyes. "Someone who can teach them to slow down in life and smell the sweet sweet flowers." She stood on her toes pushing herself more closer to you, squishing her large frame harder on the glass. "Someone who they can call-"
Suddenly her watch began to beep, pulling her attention away from you to her wrist.
"Oh got to go! It's been great, this will last me till next week!" She exclaimed looking down at her bag, "and you have been so nice listening to me ramble." Turning back to you smiling.
"It's not a problem, you have the best stories," I said nervously as she stepped away from the countertop.
"Maybe next time we should hang out, something let formal," she happily said, winking at me before waddling out of my shop, giving me a little shake of her behind as a goodbye gift.
I blushed.
"That would be nice."
