chapter two: the survey corps

*flashback*

    'i think it's about time you joined the survey corps l/n, you've done enough training on your own.' M/n remembered Erwin saying.

Today was his first day, and he was a little intimidated by the other members. He was told about the captain, Levi. Levi seemed much more intimidating from the way he was talked about yet when M/n saw him, he held back a chuckle at seeing how short the other male was.

     "Something funny?" Asked Levi, while M/n bit his lip harshly trying not to laugh.

     "No sir...shorty." He whispered the last part, but the raven head must've heard him because he stepped harshly on M/n's foot, causing the male to bust open his lip with the teeth he'd been biting it with.

     "Ssss-" M/n hissed in pain.

     Levi walked in the other direction as M/n rolled his eyes while wiping the blood from his lip. "Tch- thinks he's tougher than me huh?"

      *end of flashback*

     Now M/n and Levi had known each other for a while, and were much more comfortable around each other.

     "What's up shorty?" M/n said, as he walked in and pulled the hood of his cloak on. It was windy out, and to M/n he could smell a storm coming.

     "Shut up brat." Levi snapped at him.

      "Yikes, who woke you up this morning?" M/n asked, to which the raven head didn't respond.

     "Put your hood on, there's a storm coming." M/n urged him.

    "How do you know?" Levi asked.
M/n choked on his own spit before coming up with a response.

    "Most people can smell storms coming..."

     "Not this early?" Levi asked suspiciously.

     "You must not be able to smell it from down there captain." M/n joked.

Levi looked as if he was about to kill him. Just then, lightning was heard.

"Told you." M/n said.

Levi made a 'tch' sound, as he grabbed M/n's arm and pulling him along as he began running. Rain began hitting the ground, making the pathways slippery.

   "Wait where's the rest of the squad?" M/n asked as he ran along with the captain.

    "They aren't here yet, and we're too far away to get back before the storm, so we need to find shelter, idiot." Levi spat at him. His hand was tight around M/n's arm as he pulled him along. It almost made M/n think he actually cared about him.

      "Whatever you say shorty." M/n smiled a bit.

     Soon, the two of them found shelter in a cave. Levi pulled out sticks to start a fire.

    "Where'd you get those?" M/n asked.

    "I grabbed them right before it started raining." Levi replied, rubbing two sticks against eachother.

    M/n looked outside as the rain began coming down in buckets. Thunder could be heard from a distance, and the wind was intense. He stared out at the dark looking trees and began feeling a bit unsettled. 'Was there...something out there?' he thought. The hair on his neck began to stand up, and he bit his lip to muffle the growling coming from him.

    "What is it?" Levi asked, putting a hand on M/n's shoulder. M/n jumped in surprise a little. He was knocked out of the trance he was in, and he looked back outside, but the unsettling feeling was now gone. 'what was that?'

     "N-nothing, just thinking." M/n said, as he sat down by the now burning fire.

     Levi looked at him with suspicion, as he sat down next to him. Only leaving a bit of space between them.

    The silence became a little bit uncomfortable. Levi was ok with M/n but didn't like him much because he teased about his height all the time. To be honest, M/n was the only person bold enough to do that. Everyone else was intimidated by Levi.

    M/n's stomach hurt, he pulled his knees to his chest, and wrapped his arms around them to try and ease the pain. His stomach growled, and M/n felt a twinge of embarrassment setting his head down on his knees.

    "Here." Levi said, nudging him.

    M/n looked up to see the shorter male offering him an apple. M/n loved apples almost as much as strawberries, but he'd never told Levi this.

   "Thanks." He said, a soft smile tugging at his lips. He accepted the apple, and took a bite of it. He noticed Levi pulled out a second apple and took a bite. However, his apple was smaller.
'He's given me the bigger apple?' M/n thought.

    Levi turned to see M/n sort of staring at him, but immediately looked away.

    "What?" Levi spat, his normal attitude back.

   "NOTHING" M/n responded too quickly, it made Levi laugh. ACTUALLY LAUGH. LEVI...IS LAUGHING.

    "A-are you-" M/n started. Levi composed himself again, and cleared his throat.

   "Did you just-"

   "Shut it." Levi said, a light red dusted his face. 'is he...blushing?' M/n thought.

     M/n finished eating his apple, and set the core down next to the fire, making it's scent carry through the small cave.

    Levi did the same a few minutes after, and it became quiet again until Levi broke the silence.

    "M/n...I've been meaning to ask you-" he started, but was cut off by soft snoring.

     He looked over at the h/c haired male, who had fallen asleep. Levi thought he looked peaceful. Unlike the usual guy who called him shorty, and was annoying and irrational. He looked cute. Levi cursed himself for thinking that, but reached over to the other male.

     He took off M/n's headband and set it down next to him, then let M/n's head rest on his shoulder, as he stayed awake staring at the rain that was pattering down on the ground.
