How do i tell when Eliyas is excited about something? Well, to be honest, that man hardly shows any change of affections or any expression on his face, his eyes are always cold and words are very little, still I, being his wife for a respectable amount of time and knowing him for longer, i can still tell the difference in his mood by noticing the little changes in his attitude.
Take the morning following the night i promised to put on my wedding ring as an example, i woke up to find a very excited Eliyas Filadi looking at me, although he was just coldly eying me while saying his typical morning greeting:
_" are you awake?"
I still noticed that he was indeed very enthusiastically waiting for me to wake up mainly by noticing two changes:
1- he was already wearing his tuxedo and all windows were wide open, because usually he'd just keep wearing his nightgown until it's almost time to go to work, and he wouldn't open the windows not to disturb my sleep, so clearly someone was very eager for me to wake up.
2 and most importantly - he was not working on his laptop! I'm Speaking of a miracle here, that man's excitement was so ignited that he forgot about his holy work!
Being the person that i am, once i realised how excited he was, i decided to act a bit cheeky and take advantage of the situation, so once i walked out of the bathroom after washing up i eyed him sneakily and asked:
_"say Eliyas, did you see where i left my ring? I can't find it."
_" i put it on for you when you were asleep Noursine, so it's either on your finger or on the sink in the bathroom, you had already promised to put it on to work today, so don't you dare try to act smart and sneak out of it." He replied coldly.
Hearing him say he personally and sneakily put the ring for me in my sleep, i felt so overwhelmed with emotions thinking that he truly was anticipating this day to finally come.
Still i decided to carry on acting indifferently, I walked closer to him, then i continued:
_" aren't you a bit too much excited for such a simple matter? It's just putting on a ring after all."
He simply ignored what i said, he lifted my hand to check if i was wearing the ring, then when he made sure it was indeed still on my finger he gave me an impatient look and said:
_" having fun with my nerves aren't you?"
I nodded vigorously, so he sighed and decided to no longer deal with me, he walked out of the room after reminding me:
_" i have an early meeting, hurry up prepare your self for leaving, i'll be waiting for you at the breakfast table."
Although he was so excited, he still acted like if he wasn't, "Such a cold person" i thought while looking at his back, and i had the same thought in the car on our way to work, while looking at Eliyas who was calmly driving beside me i kept thinking that it was indeed very hard to be married with such a cold husband, and that he was very fortunate to find a good wife such as me who would support his stiff temper and unchanging expressions, if he married a delicate girl with a soft heart the poor woman would be so miserable, And if he married a cold woman then he would be treated only as a money source and would not be given any love or care, I was indeed the best match for him because i neither had too much of emotions nor i lacked too much of them, while having this set of mind i said to my husband:
_" you're very lucky to have me Eliyas, do you think any other girl would consider your circumstances and refrain from announcing her marriage with the most outstanding man in Algeria for such a long time? Even at that time when i had so many grudges against you i still chose to keep them private and never attacked you publicly although i'm a journalist and know all about how to use the public opinion for my advantage, i'll be announcing my marriage status for the first time today, shouldn't you be more considerate and show how much you appreciate such a great woman like me?"
_" how should i show my appreciation then?" He asked with a chuckle.
_" for example take a vacation for once and take me somewhere nice, what is the use of marrying a rich man if you constantly just work and never take me travel abroad?"
_" ok, i'll see with the secretary about that."
After he parked the car in his special space in the company's interior parking area and i was about to take the elevator separately, he suddenly stopped the door from closing and then one more time he ordered:
_"show me your hand"
I looked at him impatiently and complied, after showing him the still shining ring on my finger i reminded him:
_"even if i don't wear it to work today mr Derris will still casually ask me about what happened yesterday and our colleagues will naturally overhear. My marriage is no longer a secret anyways."
After i finished saying these words, Eliyas suddenly and weirdly smiled, then he said:
_" should i accompany you and properly introduce my self as your husband?"
_" of course not!! Are you crazy! We haven't agreed on this!"
I pushed him out of the elevator immediately threatening:
_"don't you dare show up to my office!"
He laughed amusingly looking at my nervous state while the door was closing, while i was still cursing him for almost giving me a heart attack, the elevator door suddenly opened to a very sightly scene at the main floor.
The main floor which is usually not very crowded since all workers would head to their posts the moment they reach the company, was unexpectedly full of people, they were all waiting outside the elevator, i was genuinely so surprised to see such scene the moment the elevator door was open.
_" step out of there Noursine! Quickly!" Selwa, the receptionist of our floor, suddenly ordered me while stepping out of the crowd and pulling me out of the elevator.
_"it can't be her" someone confusingly shouted.
And then Selwa replied while dragging me to her original spot:
_"of course it's not her!"
_"what's happening?" I asked Selwa.
Her eyes were sparkling while she replied:
_"we are waiting for the big boss's wife to come out of the elevator!"
_"what!!" I yelled almost having a heart attack.
Was i found out already??
Selwa eyed my overly surprised face and said:
_"as a part of the company how can you not hear the gossip Noursine! Why do i have to report to you all the time! Ok, i'll tell you, well, many workers noticed that the big boss was driving some anonymous woman to and off work for months now, we all thought it was just the secretary and he was driving her for convenience, but after he announced his marriage a week ago, we gave this matter a bit more consideration, if it was the secretary then why would he personally drive her for such a long time! Then last time it was reported that his secretary took a leave but they still spotted that mysterious woman sitting in the front seat with the big boss!! I bet with my life that he is married to a worker from this company and he's driving her every day!!! Ooh it's so romantic! In the past he never drove the car personally but now he's acting lovingly with his wife under our watchful eyes!"
I almost had a heart attack hearing her words, but there was a very personal question i had to ask:
_"then why haven't you suspected me as his wife?"
She laughed while shaking her head and said:
_"don't be silly."
I was so enraged by that answer in fact, why was it so unlikely for me to be this mysterious wife!!
As i pouted, i gave Selwa a displeased look then i said:
_"if it's true, then his wife would probably take the administrative elevator with the big boss and not this regular one, so there's no point of you all wasting time and waiting here."
_" we're here just in case"
_"i'll be heading to the office first then." I said.
She nodded indifferently while already engaging in a chat with a random coworker.
I eyed them all coldly, i mean, i walked right in front of their watchful eyes but no one even suspected me not even for a little bit !!
When i reached my office, my mood was so bad that even when my colleague yelled in surprise:
_"is that a wedding ring Noursine? Are you already married?"
I replied as if it was a silly matter:
_"yes, i'm married"
_"this ring though, it seems very expensive, your husband must really dote on you." Another one commented as a group of them surrounded me.
I nodded stiffly, well yes Eliyas indeed treasures me, but not in the matter of this ring since it was selected by my mother-in-law.
After congratulating me, no one really gave the matter any further consideration nor they asked me about the whereabouts since their attention was all diverted towards the hottest news in the company, the mysterious wife.
By lunch time, another yet major event happened in the company, the big boss, namely my husband, shockingly decided to pay a visit to the public affairs department, namely the department where i worked for only god knows what insane reason!
Haven't i already threatened him not to come !!
I naturally was not informed by my dear husband, so the shock expression displayed on my face was genuinely genuine when the main office secretary came personally to inform our humble department that the big boss was going to visit us within minutes!
Everyone around me started to panic as they all hurried back to their desks to organize them properly and to fix their looks, i did the same too, my heart was beating so fast, but unlike all my surrounding i was not nervous because of the big boss but instead i was afraid of my coworkers reactions after whatever my husband is coming to do.
Soon enough, a dozen of bodyguards walked inside our office and positioned all around the place, then there he came .. Eliyas Filladi.
You see, when you're married to a person whom you interact with on a daily basis and have the silliest of quarrels with, you forget that this person who you saw his most ordinary side is still in the end quite extraordinary in the eyes of others.
Eliyas Filladi was so handsome, i often forget to notice this, that my husband is truly.. Very handsome, everything about him was very alluring: his face, his gaze and manners, his height .. His body. I saw everything of that man but why was my heart pounding so much inside my chest when i saw him standing there in my office? Like if i fell all over again for him.
And then at that precise moment, Eliyas who was having a chat with my superior which i didn't even hear in my daze suddenly turned to look at me and didn't look away for a long time.
_"Miss Saadat must be very surprised to see you Mr Filladi" my superior commented as he followed Eliyas's line of sight.
I actually didn't notice that Eliyas and I were indeed acting a bit too awkward until i heard that comment.
Eliyas, being the shameless and unpredictable person that he is, gave my superior a very serious look and then said:
_" She a married woman."
What the hell!!
I desperately wanted to save the situation so i immediately commented addressing my superior:
_"the big boss indeed have sharp eyes, he must have noticed i'm wearing my wedding ring, i'm indeed a married woman mr Midali."
_"my apologies, i didn't know."
I turned to look at Eliyas again begging him with my eyes not to cause anymore inconvenience, that man though decided to act like a jerk and he even smiled while looking at me! The beast who never smiles smiled to me!!
I knew my life in the office will never be the same again the moment he did that.
