'HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU! HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU! HAPPY BIRTHDAY DEAR SIRIUS! HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU!' Sirius usually hated waking up early, but today he rolled over to face Remus and Harry with a grin on his face. 'Guess what!' Harry said excitedly, shoving a balloon he'd been holding at Sirius. Sirius shared a smile with Remus. 'What!' Sirius said, sitting up and tying the balloon the the bedpost. 'IT'S YOUR BIRTHDAY!' Sirius jumped up and transfigured his clothes. 'And guess what that means! Cake for breakfast!' Remus and Harry were already dressed, so Sirius linked arms with them and forced the pair of them to skip along the corridor and all the way to the Great Hall. Sirius found himself with piles and piles of cards from various students he taught, and a few teachers. He'd definitely seen Minerva slip one on there when he was busy thanking some kids. 'Moony. Why is this cake not chocolate?' Sirius asked, frowning at the rainbow cake on his plate. Chocolate cake was traditional in their little family. 'It is! I coloured it rainbow for the gay flag, try it!' Remus said, pushing a fork towards him. Sirius put a huge bit of cake onto his fork and shoved it into his mouth, grinning. 'I 'ike 'is 'ake.' He said, muffled. Remus burst out laughing, 'could you fit anymore in your mouth?' He asked, passing over the napkins. Sirius considered proving Remus wrong for a moment, but shook his head.

'Happy Birthday Sirius!' Hermione said, shoving a present and card across her desk. 'Yeah, Happy Birthday, Sirius!' Ron repeated, passing over two packages. 'One's from mum.' He added. Sirius hadn't been allowed to open any presents from Harry and Remus yet, but they promised him he'd be allowed to after lessons had finished. Before Sirius had a chance to reply, Fred and George were knocking on the door loudly. 'Alright?' Sirius asked, letting them in. Minerva's lessons were always fairly relaxed, and Fred and George sat in on most of them. 'HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU! HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU! HAPPY BIRTHDAY DEAR SIRIUS! HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU!' Fred and George sung, probably as loudly as possible. They were holding parcels and cards, that were also singing. 'Shh! Minerva'll have our heads,' Sirius chuckled, glancing at her over his shoulder, 'come out here.' Sirius guided the twins into the hallway, and snatched the cards. 'Thank you!' He said, then tore of the wrapping paper to his present. 'I might have to slip one of these to Snivellous.' Sirius said, examining the Weasley sweets. After thanking the boys, they disappeared down the hallway and Sirius back into his classroom, grinning.

'Presents!' As soon as the last class was over, Sirius had grabbed Harry and charged up to Remus' office. He liked birthdays. Sirius didn't think he'd stopped smiling all day, and his grin widened as Remus dumped a pile of five presents on his lap. 'MOONY! MY TWO FAVOUTITE THINGS!' Sirius exclaimed, holding up a Christmas jumper. 'Oooh! I like this!' Sirius said, waving a leather jacket in the air. The next one was from Remus and Harry. 'You. Did. Not!' Sirius gaped, looking at a cardboard box that clearly read 'Doc Martins.' 'Open it!' Harry encouraged, leaning forwards slightly. Sirius ripped off the rest of the paper and slid his fingers under the lid before pulling it open. He shrieked in delight. Black boots with red and gold laces. 'Look inside!' Remus urged, taking the box off Sirius' lap. Sirius put a hand inside the shoe and pulled the protective paper out and examined the inside of the shoe. A dog and a wolf! 'Flip them over!' Harry said. Sirius flipped the shoe, there was another picture round the rim of the shoe. 'FOOTSTEPS! Sirius cried. He leaned in close, running his finger along some miniscule writing. 'Harry Potter... To be best Godfather. Remus Lupin... To the best fia-' Sirius stopped, staring at Remus. '-nce.' He finished. 'I don't... what...?' Sirius struggled. Remus just grinned, and exchanged a glance with Harry. 'Check inside the other shoe.' He said. Sirius picked up the other Doc Martin, and carefully pulled the paper out. Inside there was a small black box, and when Sirius opened it he was speechless. Two rings lay inside, with different inscriptions. One said, 'To the moon...' Sirius said softly, looking up and Remus. 'And the stars.' Remus finished. Sirius looked back at the rings again. 'Does this mean...' Remus nodded, red-faced and grinning. Harry was smiling like crazy too. 'If you say yes.' Remus added. Sirius had been staring down at the rings again, but now he looked up. 'If? Oh Moony! Of course I'm going to say yes. Yes, yes, yes!' Sirius exclaimed. He leaned across and kissed Remus deeply, the box still in his hand. When they broke away, Sirius' body fizzed with love, and hope, and... happiness. He pulled the star ring from the box, and slid it onto Remus' finger. Remus pulled the box away and slid the moon ring onto Sirius' finger, giving Sirius a stare so full of love Sirius shivered. 'I- you knew?' Sirius asked turning to Harry. Harry nodded. 'Remus told me before we woke you up! I'm so happy for you, I can't believe it! We- can I tell him Remus?' Sirius looked across at his Moony, and Remus nodded. 'Come on! You're going to love it!' Sirius didn't need much convincing, so let Harry and Remus drag him to the Gryffindor Common Room.

'Hermione! Ron! Ginny, Fred, George, Lee, Luna!' Harry called. Luna spent a lot of time in the Gryffindor common room. All seven of them came bounding over, looking both confused and happy. 'Guess what!' Sirius said, barely able to contain his excitement. All seven of them clamoured to know at once, and Sirius agreed. 'We're engaged!' He cried, showing them his and Remus' rings. 'Oh my god!' Hermione squealed, hugging them both. 'That's wonderful!' Fred and George looked dumbstruck, staring at Sirius and Remus open-mouthed. 'That's amazing! Wow! Wait til Mum hears!' Ginny says, hugging Sirius and Remus too. Harry elbows Ron, and he gabbles some nonsense before coming out with some actual words. 'Wha- Tha- I- that's incredible! That's... yeah, amazing, wow!' Sirius grins, punching Ron's shoulder. Remus looked happier than Sirius had seen him in months, and he shared the joy. 'That is amazing, I'm very happy for you both.' Luna said serenely, and Sirius saw her squeeze Ginny's hand so hard her knuckles went white. 'Good for you.' Fred said finally, obviously still shocked. 'Yeah, good for you.' George said weakly. Lee just grinned, though Sirius watched him grip George's hand. 'If I'm not in the wedding committee then it's not happening!' Ginny says loudly, raising her hand and laughing. 'What do we think to a brown colour theme?' Remus suggests, ginning cheekily. Ginny and Hermione begin to shout in outrage immediately. 'Moony, babe, I love you, but the girls are right. No.' Sirius says, raising a hand to stop Ginny and Hermione's protests. 'Light brown would be an interesting wedding theme.' Luna says, and Ginny mimes smacking her.

'Engaged!' Sirius shouts excitedly, shoving his ring at Minerva. 'Engaged?!' She exclaims, examining the ring before handing it back. Minerva was the closest thing Sirius had to a mother, and he'd been dying to tell her. 'Yes!' Remus says from behind Sirius. Sirius spins around. He had thought Remus was asleep. 'Surprise!' Sirius says, going to stand next to his fiancé.  Minerva just smiles, and Sirius swore he could see a tear roll down her cheek. 'That is brilliant news! You do have one problem though.' Sirius' smile drops for the first time. He knows what she's about to say. 'It's illegal.' Remus doesn't look bothered, but Sirius doesn't see how they can get round this law. 'Arthur can do it,' Remus explained, obviously reading the look on Sirius' face, 'he's got this special degree thing. I checked with him before I asked you, love.' Remus said, now talking directly to Sirius. 'This is actually happening?' Minerva asked, and when Sirius nodded she walked round her desk and hugged them both. 'It's going to be the best day of my life, isn't it.' Sirius whispered in her ear as she hugged him.

'Yes.' She replied.
