Remus read through his vows for the sixtieth time that morning, much to the annoyance of Harry. 'Remus! They're good enough!' He said, sitting down next to him. Fred marched over and snatched the parchment from Remus' hand. 'I wasn't done.' Remus grumbled, straightening his suit. 'It doesn't matter, it's time.' George said, coming over from the other side of the room. Remus inhaled sharply and glanced at the clock. George was right. 'Alright let's go then.' As Remus followed Fred, George and Ron from the room he felt Harry find his hand. 'It's gonna go great.' Harry reassured. Remus could hear Ginny saying something loudly, and Hermione grumble over something, and Sirius' laugh, and then the clinking of glasses. Remus was physically shaking as he followed the boys to the bottom of the girls staircase, then went back to the boys dorm, under Harry's commands. Remus didn't know why he was back here, but at least he could go over his vows a few more times. Shit! Fred had them.
Remus could clearly hear Sirius now, and he assumed it was time. Remus went down the stairs backwards, just as he and Sirius had discussed.
'You better have your eyes closed.' Sirius said quietly, and Remus felt Sirius against his back. 'Wouldn't dream of not.' He chuckled softly, grabbing for Sirius' hands. Sirius gave their interlocked hands a squeeze. 'To the moon...' Sirius said softly, and Remus felt Sirius' head against his back. Remus blinked back the tears in his eyes. 'And the stars.' Sirius and Remus turned at the same time, and they were both so obviously desperately trying not to cry.
Sirius looked gorgeous, his grey eyes were lined with black eyeliner and his curls purposefully messy. His eyelids were covered in silver shimmer and the grin on his face and the tears in his eyes matched Remus'. 'Ready?' Sirius whispered. Remus nodded, and they heard Minerva give a squeal of excitement. 'Yep.' Sirius called, and Remus was surprised at how strong his voice was. Sirius wanted Minerva to give him away. Remus set off through the doorway, and Minerva squeezed past him. Harry was grinning and... was that Mary? Hermione was standing on Sirius' side, and Remus spun himself around, trying to stop the shaking. The music Remus had picked, 'Changes.' By David Bowie started up, he had thought it was funny. Sirius didn't just walk down the aisle, he glided down the aisle, his head held high and a beam set on his face.
'We are gathered here today to celebrate the union of out two greatest friends as one.' Arthur started, 'and to celebrate the beginning of what should be more inclusive years in the Wizarding Community. But most of all, we're here to celebrate true love. These two have been through thick and thin, best and worst. But they're standing here today, grinning like kids at Christmas, and I don't know.' The air of professionalism in Arthur's voice dropped as he grinned. 'That's pretty incredible if you ask me.' Remus had been looking straight into Sirius' eyes, but now he had to blink to even see them. 'If anyone has any objections, please step forward now or forever hold your peace.' Remus held his breath, terrified someone would stop a wedding that wasn't legal, but no one moved or spoke. 'Excellent, do you have your vows?' Arthur stepped away, grinning. Remus had been planning his vows before he even proposed, but now they seemed unnecessary. Sirius knew Remus loved him without hearing it, and Remus knew that Sirius was thinking the same thing as his grey eyes wandered to his pocket.
Remus saw Sirius' chest rise, then fall, and his eyes widen slightly when they met the star stud in Remus' ear, the pair to the moon ones that Sirius was wearing. 'Moony,' Sirius' voice was small, filled with emotion, and Sirius laughed, wiping his eyes. 'Moony,' he said, his voice more powerful. 'I met you on that train when we were just eleven, but even then I knew you would be important to me. I spent most of my life chasing you, chasing my dreams, and today they are handed to me. Growing up, I didn't know what love looked like, I didn't know what a family looked like, I didn't have a fucking clue. But neither did you. We both grew up alone, and... and scared. I see you tense up at the mention of a Father when we were eleven, twelve, even now, and I noticed when no one else did.' Sirius stopped for a second, bringing a hand up to his eye. 'We started as friends, you would always ask me before playing a prank, you would know exactly what buttons to press to piss me off, and here we stand, eighteen years today was our first kiss.' Since our... That's right. James and Peter went home for Christmas, and left Sirius and Remus in the castle together. Alone. Remus just smiled, now ignoring the tears that soaked his cheeks. . 'And I thought I couldn't love you anymore then.' Sirius half-laughed, half-cried. Remus took a minute to collect himself, wiping his eyes, then clasped Sirius' hands again.
'When I first met you, you were this sassy, cares-too-much-about-his-hair, whiny pureblood Wizard who quite obviously didn't spend much time around decent people.' Remus paused, grinning. 'And not much has changed.' Remus chuckled, giving Sirius' hand a squeeze. 'But there was something about you that wasn't easy to place. You hated rules, and refused to let anyone you knew get hurt because you knew what that felt like. When you figured out about my furry little problem you kept it on the hush because you figured I wouldn't want anyone to know. Even at eleven years old you knew me better than I knew myself, Sirius. You've put up with me at my darkest hours, when I pushed you away when I first got you back again you persisted, because we're meant to be together. There wasn't a second in those years when I thought I didn't love you. Because even though I thought you'd ruined my life, I couldn't tell myself that I didn't love you because I did, I really did. There's a reason for everything, and the reason for this is true love.' He was beautiful.
'Right, er,' Arthur stepped forward, wiping his eyes. 'can we have the rings?' Remus saw Hermione and Harry make eye contact as they stepped forward and grin. Remus carefully untangled the ring from the ribbon and held it in his hand. 'Do you, Remus John Lupin, take this man to be your lawfully wedded husband?' Arthur asked. Remus allowed Sirius to slip the ring on his finger. 'I do.' Remus' insides fizzed as the small silver band was pushed next to his engagement ring, jogging it slightly. 'Do you, Sirius Orion Black, take this man to be your lawfully wedded husband?' Remus slipped the ring onto Sirius finger, watching Sirius' face through his eyelashes. 'I do.'
'I now pronounce you husband and,' Arthur paused and looked in Remus' direction, 'husband. You may kiss the groome.' Sirius had leaned forward and his lips were against Remus' in a second. 'To the moon.' He murmured against Remus' lips. 'And the stars.' Remus whispered back. Breaking apart, Remus became aware of the crowd clapping, and Harry yelling himself hoarse. 'THOSE ARE MY GODPARENTS'. Chuckling, Remus took Sirius' arm and they started down the aisle again.
Today had been perfect, an entire emotional rollercoaster, but perfect.
Sirius had disappeared to change into something else, and Remus was watching a black-out drunk Lee Jordan fly round the room on a broom. 'I'M GAY FOR GEORGE WEASLEY!' He was yelling over and over again. George was mortified, trying his best to merge with the wall, and Fred was doing all he could to shove him to the middle of the room. Harry, Hermione and Ron were sitting at a table, each with large pieces of wedding cake. Ginny was perched on Luna's lap on another table, joined by Charlie, Bill, Neville and Arthur. Molly was no where to be seen, Remus supposed she was bothering someone somewhere. Minerva was laughing with a friend of Sirius, Remus didn't know her, but Sirius had been most insistent the woman come. 'Hey handsome.' A female voice replied. Remus spun round, his eyebrows raised in question. 'Mary! I didn't know you were coming!' Remus hugged Mary tightly, stooping a little. Mary took Remus' glass from his hand and took a sip. 'Wouldn't miss it for the world, darling. Now, who's this?' Remus looked to his right, were Mary had indicated. Fred and Harry were stood side-by-side. 'Oh, Mary, this is Fred, Weasley's son, and Harry. Harry Potter.' Mary let out a gasp covering her mouth with her hand. 'Boys, this is Mary, she-' Remus was cut off as Mary raised her hand in the air. 'I'm the woman who took care of him for twelve bloody years. Speaking of...' Sirius had sauntered through the door. In a band t-shirt and jeans. Trust him. 'Wow! Creds to you! He's a pain in the arse!' Harry said, laughing and dodging Remus' attempt to swat him. George came up behind Fred. 'Mary, woman who looked after Remus for twelve years apparently.' Fred said, elbowing George. George looked her up and down, then looked at Remus, then Mary. 'George Weasley. How you managed to do that I don't know. Can barely put up with him when he's with Sirius, let alone without him.' Remus elbowed George in the ribs, still laughing. Mary laughed along easily, catching Remus' eye. 'Hi!' Sirius bounded up behind Remus and stood on his tip-toes to wrap his arms round Remus' neck. 'Hey, you. Why didn't you tell me MacDonald was coming?' Sirius came to Remus' side, shrugging. He grinned at Mary. 'Because you like surprises.' Sirius knew full well Remus hated surprises, and Remus could see the stupid smirk on his face. 'Yes love.' He sighed shaking his head at Sirius.
'It was good to see you, we'll catch up later!' Mary called, weaving through the bubbles of people. 'Ugh... finally.' Remus loved Mary, but she couldn't take a hint.
Today had been the perfect day, and according to Sirius, perfect days always had perfect endings. Sirius had said that very sincerely between kisses as he fiddled with the button on Remus' trousers.
'Sirius Lupin.' Remus murmured against Sirius' lips.
