Chapter 13- You and Me

2 weeks later

Amelia's POV

Arizona and I are getting closer every day. I can honestly she say she is my best friend and favorite person in the entire world. I woke up, the first thing I did was tell her good morning and the last thing I did at night was text her goodnight. 

Today is the day I am going to ask her to be my girlfriend. I needed time to plan this since I wanted to make it special. 

First I needed to go to the chief to see about a job here. I didn't want to leave because Arizona was my home. Even if I didn't have a permanent place to stay, she felt like home to me. 

I knocked on his office door and he told me to come in. "Good morning, chief. Do you have a few minutes to talk?" I asked him. "Sure, what is it you wanted to talk about?" He says. 

"I know I was only here for a case with Derek and that's just about finished. I was wondering if there is a spot open for another neurosurgery attending. I feel as though I would make a great addition to the team." I finish.

"Actually, Amelia. Dr. Jenson is leaving, so a spot has opened up on the team. But Derek is also stepping down as the Head of Neurosurgery to work more on research and a new project." He says and opens his mouth to say more, but I chime in. "Wait, Derek is what? Why would he do that?! He talks about being the superior Shepherd all the time. This isn't like him." I exclaim.

"He just mentioned he wanted to have more flexibility to do projects. I was actually going to find you to see if you would accept the position as Head of Neurosurgery here at Seattle Grace Mercy West. We would be lucky to have you here. And don't tell Derek, you're my favorite Shepherd." He says with a smile.

"Chief, I appreciate the offer. I will say yes once I have talked to my brother. I need to know exactly why he is stepping down because it's unlike him." I say, and he nods and bids me farewell for now.

"Derek Christopher Shepherd!" I shout as Derek turns around with wide-eyes. "Amy, why are you shouting at me." He says.

"When were you going to tell me you stepped down as Head of Neurosurgery?!" I say a little softer. "Chief told you, that man I swear. Look, Amy, I stepped down to take on a new project that I am very passionate about." He says.

"What could be more important than running your own department?" I counter. "I am developing a robotic limb that communicates from the brain to the muscles in the body to create a practical limb. It would be able function more as if the leg or arm were actually there. I am doing this for Arizona. She wouldn't be someone going through the trials, she would be someone to get it after the trails are over and the kinks are worked out. If she wants it that is. Callie and Link agreed to help me as well. They want to see her happiness, just as much as I do. " He finished. I can't believe my brother was stepping down for something so noble. Derek Shepherd really is a changed man.

"Speaking of Arizona, are you still doing you know what today?" He says, trying to be secretive. "Derek, she's not here. Yes I am. I am nervous." I say. "Don't be, I see the way you two look at each other. And I am confident she will say yes." He says with a smile and wraps me in a hug. 

The rest of the goes by in a blur as I was so nervous for what I was about to do. I called the chief to let him know I accepted the position of Head of Neurosurgery. We would talk more about my contract at some point soon.

I hop in my car and head to my destination. I pull out my phone to text Arizona, still nervous as ever.
