[Fundy's POV]

"What do you mean you weren't in the room as it happened? You're the prison guard!" Schlatt was becoming hysterical.

Fundy kept his face emotionless, sticking to his lie.

"I promise your Majesty, I traded positions with another guard that morning. The prisoners were unbearable, and I felt like I would kill them without your permission." Fundy made direct eye contact with a guard.

It was humorous to see the guard's face change so quickly.

"Is this true?" Schlatt asked the guard Fundy was staring at.

"N-No sir! I have never been moved from my post, and neither has he. He is lying!"

Schlatt looked back to Fundy.

"Are you sure you're telling the truth, Fundy?"

He smirked. "Of course Sir, how could your best guard lie to you about something so tragic?"

Schlatt's breath was unsteady.

"Sir, he is lying, please listen!" The guard pleaded.

"You have quite the history of fuck ups, so why exactly should I believe you?" Schlatt growled.

"Fundy is covering up his own crimes, I've never been in the prison! I've only guarded the main hall!"

Schlatt was rubbing his forehead, and no one said anything.

"Please, I've only been with one other guard!" The guard pointed to one of the higher ranking guards.

Schlatt looked to the man being pointed to. "Is this true? Have you had the same post?"

The man shook his head, staying silent.

"Where were you then?" Schlatt asked.

The man made a face, looking to Fundy.

"He doesn't speak, Sir." Fundy answered.

Schlatt sighed loudly. "We're not getting anywhere."

"I'm innocent, I swear!" The guard continued to plead.

"So far, you've been the most unreliable guard I've ever had. I have enough reason to believe that you would do something this careless." Schlatt said with an intense tone, becoming tired of the argument.
