THE AIR WAS SWEET

IT WAS UNSETTLING

____________________________

The morning air settled upon Sylvia's skin, making her shiver slightly.

The sky was a light golden color, signifying the sun was rising.

Sylvia was practicing at the dead tree again, beginning to build up her strength more and more.

The sun began to seep thought the tree lines, the gold designs lighting up her black sword. Sylvia gets out of fighting position to admire the shine.

It reminded her of those she'd killed and the ones she would practice with. She remembered her mother passing down the sword to her, the last thing she had received before her mother's death.

Sylvia continued to think of her mother, when her and Ranboo would sit besides their mother, watching her become weaker and weaker with sickness. How her father would never keep their mother company.

When their mother died, Ranboo's old energetic self died with her. Sylvia often found Ranboo staring out the window for hours on end, sitting in the sun room alone. She would sit next to him and hold his hand, him not even acknowledging his sister's presence for a majority of the time. Sylvia would stare at her brother, looking into his eyes. The evening sun would illuminate his uniquely colored eyes, but they did not shield the emptiness behind them. It crushed Sylvia seeing Ranboo so still; so emotionless; his colorful personality turning grey.

Ranboo would walk the halls staring directly ahead when he was not sitting. Sylvia always kept a careful eye on Ranboo at all times, walking with him, pointing out small things like the weather. She knew that he was listening, but didn't have enough energy to make conversation.

It took months before Ranboo started talking again. Sylvia cried so hard that day, her other half finally healing. It was only small sentences, but it was enough.

Over time, Ranboo became more like his old self, but he was calmer and quieter. To Sylvia, it seemed that he had two sides to him, a light and dark side. He could easily switch between the two, but tried to keep his darkness submissive to the light.

The twins formed a stronger bond during the dark times, Ranboo growing to despise his father more and more, realizing he was never a father to him and his sister. Sylvia saw Ranboo's dark side the most during the phase, many walls being subjected to harm.
