As soon as the event was over, Padmé practically dragged her husband to their room by his gloved arm. As soon as the door closed, she dropped his arm and glared at him angrily.
"What the kriff Anakin?" She demanded. He sighed, taking off his helmet and shaking his hair.
"Padmé, please. I didn't know about this until today, I swear." He said.
"You still knew! And you didn't think to tell me that some psycho was going to brainwash our six year olds?"
"Angel, please. I know we didn't want this, but master thinks it's for the best. Think about how powerful they could be. We could overthrow the emperor and rule the galaxy together." He pleaded.
"I don't even know you anymore! Who are you and what have you done with the man I married?" Padmé demanded.
"Everything I have done has been for you, Padmé. For us!"

The door to the twins room opened slightly and her new handmaiden stepped out.
"Is everything alright, milady?" She asked hesitantly.
"Yes, Nova. Thank you, you may retire to your room now," Padmé told her, her voice much softer.

She turned back to her husband as Nova left. He looked sadder now, his eyes soft.
"I'll talk to my master, alright? Everything will be okay, I promise," he told her, taking her hand and stroking the wedding band she wore. With a kiss on her hand, he quickly left the room.

As soon as the door shut, Padmé darted over to her wooden chest and flung it open. She practically dove in to find the book she was looking for. Finally finding it, she closed the chest and sat on it, flicking through the book quickly. Once she found the familiar code, she scribbled out what she needed to say and then put the book back at the bottom of the chest.

Later that night, when the twins were asleep and Anakin was out of their room, Padmé stuffed herself into the back corner of their walk in wardrobe, hoping to be away from prying eyes.
She held the paper in her hand and read over it multiple times. Once ready, Padmé pressed the button on her bracelet, holding it close to her face so she could whisper. Holding the button, she heard a series of beeps before she began reciting her message. Once it was done, she let go and pulled her glove back on. Her hands made quick work of tearing the paper into pieces as she moved towards the door.

Before she could reach it, it swung open. Nova stood on the other side, looking surprised as she held a pile of clothes.
"Oh, my apologies Lady Vader," her eyes drifted to the paper clenched in Padmé's fist before she lowered her gaze to the floor. Padmé tried her best to stay calm even though she was terrified that she was discovered.
"Not a problem, Nova. Excuse me," Padmé moved around her and out the door, leaving her handmaiden with a curious look on her face.

——

The next morning, a stormtrooper greeted Padmé at the door, making her blood run cold.
"The emperor requests your presence."
