it had been a year since the incident. severus, seemingly fully recovered. while others almost completely forgot about what had happened. the moment lingered in severus' head for months like the echo of a bouncing basketball.

by this time, it was time for reunion. of which all of the people he grew up with came out of their little bubbles of confinement to speak to one another. in happiness and good spirits. severus contemplated going, thinking of what words to say and what things he'd do.

the thought of hogwarts had only given him so many goosebumps thinking back to when silly decisions with the war he'd been fighting was all that mattered. the simplest form of life for him.

surely everywhere people mourned for renee differently. like for tom, he had been speaking to severus almost everyday. they shared memories of the one and only, reminiscing when she told them how ways they could better and fix themselves. recognizing the fact that they completely took her for granted. fortunately, there were people around them that reminded them of home; renee.

severus walked out to be greeted by emma and george. they had been wearing matching outfits and both had engagement rings on. emma looked at severus and almost burst into tears. it had been years since she had last seen anyone from hogwarts, other than the weasleys.

"severus you've made it!" she exclaimed, severus felt a rush of anxiety and old habits flow over him. closing his eyes at the memory of renee. he envisioned she was there with him holding his hand, calming him down. emma tapped severus, causing his eyes to open quickly. she put george's and her hands in severus face.

"we're engaged!" george said, laughing. severus just nodded with envy. it was fair, he deserves that happy ending. the world was so against him.

"sorry about renee by the way. you two were like perfect for each other..." george brought up. severus felt uneasy, diverting his eyes elsewhere.

"yeah.." he dragged on, walking past them to sit under a tree. he sat under the tree that reminded him most of hogwarts and wrote.

"writing at a social function? sounds like you," evan said sitting next to severus. for once this whole time severus didn't want to immediately leave and walk away. evan gave severus some sort of comfort, probably because evan was the second closest thing to renee. severus laughed a little.

"this is important. besides, i don't really find anyone here interesting enough to speak to them," he said, looking up from his journal. evan laughed.

"yeah you're definitely severus," he said, standing up. "whenever you're ready to say something to everyone else, let me know we can speak together," he smiles at severus and walked away.

for a split second, severus felt alright. the cool breeze of the wind felt safe. safety; something he hasn't had in a long time.

"i just cant believe shes actually gone, you know?" kaleb said whispering to kameron and andrea. who were one of the people who didn't make their whole year mourning renee. they've moved on, unlike some.

"well. she is, i'm just glad me and andrea don't have to join the eaters anymore," kameron sighed along with andrea who chuckled slightly. kaleb looked at them with pure revulsion.

"how could you joke about something like that when someone risked their life so you wouldn't have to go there and be like-" he was cut off.

"just because you were in love with her doesn't mean we all had to be as well," andrea said rolling her eyes. kaleb felt angry, he just did. the words in love with her stuck in his mind for a little.
