Waking up was excruciating. Even inch of my body was stiff and aching. I was still curled up on the chair in my batman pyjamas, but unlike last night, I was not alone.
Hayes sat straight up, he was scarily pale and his eyes were like empty pits.
"Hayes." I said weakly, my voice was heavy with sleep.
He looked over at me, seemingly worried or confused, but after a moment his face relaxed, still not exactly welcoming though.
"Hey, Millie." He said with a tiny nod.
I didn't know what to say to help him. It was obvious he'd not slept, but who can blame him? Daisy had been his girlfriend and he had been driving the car that caused her death...
What can you say to someone full of grief and regret?
"I'm sorry, really sorry Hayes. She loved you, even if she never said it to you, I could tell she did."
He looked at me for a long moment and then he smile a tiny, heart breaking smile, then he took my hand and squeezed it.
***Later***
It was 12:30 and I was sick of waiting. I needed to see Nash, to check he was okay. After arguing with some stupid doctor for about twenty minutes, he let in.
Nash appeared to be asleep but as I sat down he opened his eyes a little.
"Hey." I said lamely, fighting back new tears. He looked worse than I'd imagined; he had a large gash from the bottom of his left eyebrow to end of his jaw that had been stiched up and cleaned but still painful looking. His arm was in a sling and his chest was wrapped up in bandages because of his broken ribs. There were other cuts on his body too but I couldn't stand to see anymore, so I focused on his face.
"Millie, you're here." He smiled, his bright blue eyes sparkling.
"of course I am." I said, returing his grin with a small one of my own.
His brows furrowed together then in thought, "Mils, I'm sorry for yesterday, I didn't mean to be such a douche, I shouldn't have left you and I should've-"
I put my hand over his mouth to stop him continuing, "hey, it's okay, it's not your fault, I was being a bitch for no reason - and don't you dare try to deny it because you know I'm telling the truth."
He watched me through his dark lashes before holding out his arm as a request for me to join him. I climbed in next to him on the hospital, careful not to lean on him to much in case I hurt him.
"Daisy died last night." I said, a single tear falling from my cheek and onto his bandaged chest.
"I heard." He told me, closing his eyes and sighing. "I'm so sorry, Millie." His arm around me became tighter as he tried to comfort me.
"It's okay, I got to say goodbye."
He kissed my head and we stayed there for the rest of the day, snuggled together, listening to music and watching movies, anything to take our mind from recent events. Anything to stop thinking.
