Natasha was the first to arrive and the room looked and smelled amazing. Evelyn saw her walk in and smiled as she was finishing pouring everyone's glass of wine.
"Nat! I'm glad you were the first one to make it. I have been frazzled trying to make sure I didn't forget anything." Evelyn said, giving her a big hug, "how does it look?"
"It looks amazing! I can't remember the last time this kitchen looked this good," Natasha said looking at the table with a white tablecloth and candles down the middle. The plates were set and she noticed that there were two salad bowls on opposite sides of the table with baskets of bread in between them.
Evelyn blushed slightly at the praise, "Thanks Nat, that helps my nerves." The elevator dinged and her hostess role kicked into overdrive.
"Hi guys!" she said walking up to Tony and Pepper. "Pepper I'm so glad you made it!"
"Evie I wouldn't have missed this for anything," Pepper said, hugging Evelyn, making her smile brighter.
"Wow, kid this looks amazing!" Tony said looking into the kitchen, "I may have to hire you."
"Thanks, Tony, you guys can take a seat anywhere you'd like," Evelyn said
Another ding at the elevator and Steve and Sam walked out. Evelyn smiled at the two men but felt her heart sink when she noticed Bucky wasn't with them.
"Wow, Evelyn it smells amazing in here!" Sam said hugging her
"Thanks, Sam," Evelyn said
"Thank you for thinking of us and making us a home-cooked meal," Steve said, hugging her and leaning into her ear, "don't worry he's right behind us."
Evelyn looked up at him with wide eyes as the elevator dinged again. Steve released her with a wink and headed to the table to take a seat.
Standing at the elevator were Bucky and Bruce. "Sorry we're late, someone was hiding in the lab," Bucky said nudging Bruce lightly. He knew that Evelyn would have been upset if anyone was missing.
"I wasn't hiding - I was working," Bruce said surprised when Evelyn hugged him.
"Your work can wait for one night Bruce," Evelyn said gesturing to the table then looked at Bucky and gave him a hug, "Thank you," she whispered.
"Okay everyone get comfy I'll bring the main dish to the table!" Evelyn said heading to the island and grabbing the first tray of lasagna
"Let me help you," Bucky said, grabbing the other tray and walking with you to the table.
"Thanks, Buck," Evelyn smiles and puts her tray down at the same time as Bucky "Dig in everyone. There is plenty of lasagna, salad, garlic bread, and wine for everyone. Don't forget to leave room for dessert!"
Bucky pulled out her chair next to Natasha and sat across from her. As everyone started to pass bowls and plate their food his eyes were stuck on her. She was smiling and her eyes were bright. He saw Natasha lean and whisper something in her ear and the most beautiful shade of pink appeared on her cheeks and she peered over at him and smiled. Without any control, Bucky smiled back and gave her a quick wink making her blush even more and she broke eye contact when Pepper started to ask about the End of Summer party.
"Did you make the list of options you like for the stylist?" Pepper asked Evelyn taking a drink of her wine.
"Yes, I won't lie, it's a lot more of do nots than dos," Evelyn said laughing
"That's half the battle," Pepper said laughing "We can give the list to them tomorrow and they can give you some options by the evening."
"Thank you, Pepper, I am so thankful you are helping me with this," Evelyn said smiling as the woman reached across the table to squeeze her hand.
