Chapter 41

As Bucky broke through the barrier he shouldered his gun as Steve brought his shield up. The pair was taken by surprise as they heard a male scream. In the center of the room, Evelyn was standing her right hand in the air as if holding the man levitating by the throat.

"I will make you pay for what you did to her - you bastard," Evelyn said her eyes beginning to glow.

"Evelyn -" Bucky said as the Doctor screamed

"Get her and go," Evelyn said not looking around but twisting her left hand in the air earning another scream from the man.

Steve went towards the body on the table and stopped short when he saw the woman laying on the table and looked at Evelyn and back to the woman. Her body was covered in bruises and grime but that couldn't hide her beauty. Steve reached the cuffs and hit a barrier making him unable to break through.

"Miss, my name is Steve Rogers. I am here to rescue you and get you somewhere safe," Steve said looking down at the woman. When nothing happened he placed his hand on the barrier and opened his mind. He immediately felt a presence in his mind going through his memories. Sorting through it like a book catalog it stopped on an image of Evelyn's face and he felt excitement and joy. Steve noticed the barrier fizzled a little and he pushed against it at the woman's wrist. "Evelyn sent me to help you. She's a friend - I helped rescue her. Let me rescue you - please." Steve pleaded. And the barrier came down in a ripple allowing him to break the cuffs and lift the frail body into his arms.

"Help. Me." the man begged as Evelyn pushed more of the pain that was inflicted by him back into his body.

"Help you?" Evelyn spat pushing the pain of her broken arm into his body from his forced training. "How many of us have there been? How many didn't survive the serum? The training?"

"I've got her!" Steve yelled to the room. Bucky was getting closer to Evelyn reaching out to her to try and grab her attention.

"Get her to safety, Steve. Don't let this be for nothing," Evelyn said breathing a sigh of relief.

"Evelyn - this isn't you," Bucky said reaching out and his hand meeting a barrier; this time one of Evelyn's making.

She turned and looked him in the eye. The man she hoped would one day be her future. "He deserves this Bucky. He hurt her - and I didn't save her."

Bucky kept his hand on the barrier, "we've got her now. Steve is getting her to the quinjet. We can find her family and help her go back to them."

The man in the air screamed again as Evelyn pushed the pain of the brandings to the man. "He took our family from us. I'll make him pay for what he did to our parents."

Bucky stared at her. The woman was Evelyn's little sister. He noticed the protective nature of her posture. "Evelyn, she needs you. If you take a life it will change you forever."

"I will gladly change if it means this filth is gone," Evelyn said, and as she was about to send more pain in the man's body she has hit with a feeling of love and care and hope. She snapped her head and saw Bucky's hand on the barrier and saw his blue eyes bore into her.

"He deserves so much pain for what he did to you, to your sister, and the others but we need to find the others he's kidnapped. We have to save them and end Hydra," Bucky said pouring more love through the bond. "I will end him myself once he serves his purpose if you still want."

Evelyn released the barrier and let the Doctor fall unceremoniously to the ground in a heap unconscious. "She's alive Bucky."

Bucky grabbed her face in his hands and stared into her eyes, "So are you Evelyn, and thank god too because I just got you." He leaned in and kissed her.
