As Evelyn stood in front of the mirror in Natasha's room she couldn't help but be shocked by her reflection. Her blonde hair was curled and framed her face which made her feel like an actress from the 1950's. Natasha had taken time to do her makeup look effortless and make her blue eyes sparkle. Evelyn had been worried the addition that was made to the dress would take away the beauty but she was more in love with the gown now than she was when she first tried it on. She turned slightly and noticed that the makeup that they had put over her scar made it almost invisible.
"You look amazing!" Natasha said walking in.
"Thanks Nat - you look amazing too!" Evelyn said. Natasha was wearing a beautiful grey gown that sparkled with her steps. Evelyn laughed internally because she had just gotten the Black Widow nickname.
"Are you ready to get this party started?" Natasha asked holding a glass of champagne to Evelyn who gladly took it.
"Let's do this," Evelyn said, clinking her glass and downing it, "better hurry before all my courage disappears."
The two women walked to the elevator and pushed the call button and almost instantly the elevator door opened and Steve and Sam were there smiling.
"Whew ladies," Sam said, winking at the women and Natasha playfully shoved him as they joined them in the elevator.
"You guys look handsome," Evelyn said looking at the men in their dress uniforms.
"Thank you ma'am," Sam said nodding his head and Steve did the same.
As they arrived on the floor Evelyn could hear the music and array of voices and felt like her feet were cement. Looking up she saw Steve had offered her his arm, "First step is the hardest," he said smiling.
As Evelyn took his arm she noticed that Sam had done the same for Natasha and the four of them were walking to the private area above the dance floor. "This is for us and any special quests we have," Steve said, explaining.
"Oh Evie you look breathtaking!" Pepper said engulfing her in a hug, "Nat you look as gorgeous as ever."
"Thank you Pep," they both say at the same time laughing.
"Evelyn, let me introduce you to our guests this evening," Pepper said, gesturing to a group of Veteran's all dressed in their dress uniforms.
"Good Evening gentlemen," Evelyn said, smiling genuinely at them all.
"Are you the young woman we are celebrating tonight Miss," an elderly man spoke as he came up to her leaning on his walker; still standing tall with authority.
"Yes, Sir. My name is Evelyn Bennett," she said taking his hand
"Roy White," he said giving it a small shake, "I'm glad you made it home Miss," he finished putting his other hand on top and giving her a gentle squeeze.
"Thank you Sir," Evelyn said, feeling the group's eyes on her, "I am truly blessed."
"Please let me and my men know if we can do anything to assist you," Roy said bowing his head as he, Steve, and Sam rejoined the group of Veteran's
"Princess Ariel!" Tony said getting her attention
"Yes Piano Man?" Evelyn said and she saw Natasha snort into her glass of champagne
"Man I really like you kid," Tony says giving her a hug, "so what do you think of your first Tony Stark party?"
"It's amazing Tony, really, but I feel more out of place than I have my entire life," Evelyn said looking around.
