Chapter 12

Later that night while Evelyn made her shopping list Natasha volunteered to keep her company.

"Who is Miss Maximoff?" Evelyn asked Natasha

"Her first name is Wanda and she is enhanced like you. She and Vision are currently in Wakanda. She is amazing but at times her emotions and memories get the best of her so she is training down there with Vision," Natasha explained. "Vision is a lot harder to explain but in the easiest way possible he is enhanced and very smart."

"I feel better knowing the person that is training me cares enough to better herself by training as well," Evelyn said feeling relief

"She will be able to help you, I know it. I'm here if you need anything too Evie," Natasha said putting her hand on Evelyn's shoulder, "I know you've been through a lot but just know we all know a little about that kind of stuff and you aren't alone."

Evelyn smiled brightly at the woman and submitted the completed shopping list to Pepper's assistant who had volunteered to everything on the list.

"Should I be concerned about the party?" Evelyn asked putting down the tablet to look at Natasha who was watching the TV.

"No, it's just politics. You will probably be asked to dance more than any other time in your life though - can you dance?" Natasha asked moving on when Evelyn nodded yes, "our team is amazing and when they notice someone is giving me or Wanda too much attention they come and rescue us."

"That's a relief," Evelyn said laughing and then stopping abruptly "I don't have a dress."

"Don't worry! We can pick one out - if Fury wants you to schmooze then he can buy you a dress," Natasha winks.

Bucky was sitting on his bed thinking about everything Evelyn had said meeting with Fury. How she looked at him with brave eyes and more strength than one person should have. He heard a knock on his door and Steve walked in.

"How you doing Buck," he knew his friend was thinking about Evelyn's story

"Good, I just can't believe everything that girl has gone through and she continues to be kind to all of us. Who cooks dinner for a group of strangers a week after being rescued from 5 years of hell?" Bucky asked, looking at his friend who sat next to him on the armchair.

"I don't know Buck but I think it's because we are all she has. She has lost so much and I think that she sees us as a lifeline," Steve looks into his eyes, "but I know it's more than that to you."

Bucky looks at Steve and shakes his head annoyed that he knows him so well. "I hate that she's been hurt and she is still hurting. I just wish I could help her but I'm worried I'll scare her if I try to help because she'll know who I was before."

"Yeah man BEFORE, what matters now is how you move forward. We will all be there to help Evelyn. You gotta give yourself the benefit of the doubt and her as well - she's never treated you as a monster so why would she when you are trying to help her?" Steve put his hand on Bucky's shoulder.

And then Bucky decided he would be whatever lifeline Evelyn needed him to be.

As Evelyn lay awake in her bed she was thankful Bruce had given her a sedative to prevent the nightmares. He had been worried that bringing up all the memories in the meetings would bring them on and truthfully Evelyn had been afraid too. Bruce had assured her that the sedative was safe and she would have no side effects. When she raised an eyebrow at him he just explained that it had already been perfected for someone else who had similar issues.
