Steve pulled Evelyn back as her fear pulsed through him. Watching his best friend and brother fight was difficult enough without Evelyn using her powers subconsciously. He promised Bucky - that no matter what he'd made sure Evelyn made it out safely and to her sister. "Shh Evelyn, he's got this."
Evelyn's vision was getting narrower as her head began to pound more and more but she forced her eyes to stay open to watch Bucky and Richard fight. She tried to fight against Steve from her strength was failing her as well. She watched helplessly as Richard threw Bucky and her heart stopped when she didn't see him move.
"No...no..No!" she screamed fighting against Steve as tears streamed down her face.
Jacob watched as his first love fell apart at the scene in front of them. He couldn't allow her to lose someone else - he had started this. Hydra wouldn't have learned about her gifts if it wasn't for him. His stupid desire for power - for recognition led him to betray a woman he loved. He picked up his gun and went to Evelyn who had slumped against Steve's arms her eye glazed over with tears and pain.
"Live your life to the fullest Evie. I hope you'll forgive me one day," Jacob said kissing her forehead. He looked at Steve and said, "Get Bucky out of there and leave. Don't let her see." And at that, he jumped from the jet and started unloading his clip at Richard getting him away from Bucky. Jacob ran to Bucky and rustled him up and got him on his feet.
"Give her the love she deserves because man being loved by her is something else," Jacob said grabbing his gun and shooting at Richard to give Bucky time to get to the jet.
Once the clip ran out he knew Richard wasn't far. He steeled himself and prepared for a fight but Richard simply grabbed him by the throat and lifted him off the ground. As he squeezed Jacob looked behind briefly to see Bucky being dragged on the jet and noticed the body of Evelyn passed out. He breathed a sigh of relief that she wouldn't have to see his death as he looked at Richard and said "She was never yours." And at that, he snapped Jacob's neck.
