Tris POV:
I'm trying to open my eyes, but all I'm looking at is pure darkness.
I hear voices around me, but I can't see any of them looking at me.
Just the dark.
"Tris?" I hear a voice calmly say. I recognize the voice, but can't picture a face to it.
"Tris... Honey... It's Tobias."
I'm awake.
The first thing that I see when I open my eyes is a worried Tobias starring back at me. When he sees I'm awake, he relaxes a little before giving me a kiss on the cheek. I would hug him, but the thought of moving my arms just sends a chill down my back.
"Tris, you're awake! I'm do glad to see your pretty eyes again... Are you all right?"
I nod my head slowly, then look around the room. I was in a plain white hospital room that had flowers in every corner. Tobias was the only one in here, next to me.
"Is everyone all right?" I finally make out. He stares at me for a moment before I see a tear run down his eyes.
"Tobias... What happened..."
"Tris," he pauses to wipe his eyes a moment, "Your friend Susan was shot by your brother. She died from blood loss before the police could save her. She told me-"
But I couldn't listen.
All I could see were the memories of Susan and I doing stuff together.
The time when we walked the beach looking for turtles.
The time when we went to Summer Camp and learned to throw knives.
All of our sleep overs, all of our make up and dress up fails.
And now, they're all over. Forever.
Tears escape my eyes, and I try to speak out but my throat is held back but something. I cough a few times, which makes the crying even more worse. Tobias tries to comfort me, but this is a wound that has an opened bandaid, waiting for pain to leak inside it.
I notice Tobias is now laying in bed beside me, and it makes me calm down a little. I'm silent, tears still falling from my face.
I feel the warmth of his thumb press against my face, wiping my tears off.
"You know... They say it's the memories that last longer then the friendship itself. Never forget about Susan, because she will always be with you."
I reach my arm around Tobias, ignoring the pain, and pull him close.
"Thank you." Is all I can manage to say.
He smiles, then pulls me closer into his chest.
"I love you, Tris. Get some rest for me."
I smile, then drift to sleep.
~~~PAGE BREAK~~~~
I open my eyes to see the room is completely empty. I see a note on my desk side table, reading;
'Tris,
I'll be back later, but I had some stuff to take care of. Christina should be there, just ask a nurse to bring her in.-4'
I smile, seeing he had draw a little doodle at the bottom- a heart with our names written as "4+6"
6, aye? Weird.
I press the red button to single a nurse in. After about a minute, a beautiful blond nurse walks in. She was wearing a bright white, loose dress and black framed glasses.
"May I help you?" Her voice was bright and peppy.
"Yes, my boyfriend said I had a friend here waiting for me? Christina Jones?"
She smiles and nods quickly. "Ah, yes! I'll get her right away madam."
I didn't notice it, but the nurse had a faint British accent that has probably faded off through the years.
Christina finally energies through the door. She's holding a cup of what I assume is coffee, and a huge smile spread across her face.
"Tris, you're awake. Finally." She sets the coffee next to my table as I shift myself to sit up.
"Yeah, did you think I was going to die?"
She gives me a faint shrug. "The nurse told me you had lost a lot of blood." Her confusion quickly turns into another smile. "But I knew you wouldn't leave me."
I laugh at her. "I'm not leaving yet, Chris, and I hope not for a long while."
We share a laugh before I speak again.
"So how much work have I missed?"
"Well, actually I talked to the principle, and she said that she would take away all of your work due to your good grades now. But you have to be back at school by two weeks with a doctors note."
I smile, slowly reaching over to hug her. "You're the best, Christina! Thank you."
She gives me a small snicker. "You would be lost with out me. Anyways, I need to go, Will and I have a movie date tonight." She squeals as the last words leave her mouth.
"Ooooh! What movie?"
"I think it's called The Perks of being a Wallflower, but I don't know. I think we're just having a marathon. I should get going, I'll be back tomorrow to tell you how it went."
She smiles, hugs me, then walks away. I linger my smile for a little while, before closing my eyes and letting the darkness take over me.
