Thud. Thud. Umph. Umph.I listened to the sounds of Col hammering his fists against the swinging punching bag as I pretended to be stretching. Honestly, how could anyone focus when you have a mad bull beating up a punching bag?
I guess, in a sense, I am to blame for Col's anger. For some reason, he didn't take the news too well when I told him what had happened two nights ago. I left out the almost... well, whatever it was that happened between Kadrian and me. I wondered if he was mad at me for failing to seduce, or if it was because I had let my guard down.
Col finally landed a kick to the punching bag, sending the bag flying from the ceiling. I felt my eyes widen, and I froze. Col's back was facing me. His breathing was labored. I watched as his muscles flexed furiously underneath his black tank top.
He slowly turned around to face me. His brown eyes narrowed when they met mine. "When you're done, start running your laps," he muttered before stalked off outside.
Col opened the door to find Blake and Valerie standing there. Col rolled his eyes and brushed his way past them. Blake and Valerie did a double take at Col's retreating figure before their eyes turned to me.
Blake raised a brow. "What's his problem?"
Valerie's eyes narrowed into a glare pointed towards me. "What did you do?" she accused.
I didn't even have time to answer because Valerie was already stomping out the door to follow Col. My lips parted and I lifted my hands up in exasperation.
Blake chuckled as he came closer to me. "Don't worry about them. Col's just having a mood swing, and Valerie..." he sighed, running his fingers through his hair.
"Complicated," I finished, earning a laugh from him. "What's the deal with her and Col anyway?"
Blake pressed his lips together. "It's complicated," he finally answered.
I nodded, realizing that was all I was going to get out from him. I moved to my feet and began to start off jogging around the cabin's main room. I know it may sound weird, but the main room is actually bigger than it sounds.
Blake began to stride beside me as I jogged. Curse his longer legs.
"So, are you going to tell Col about me cheating on my laps?" I questioned.
Blake smiled. "Your secret's safe with me."
I slowed my pace to a walk. We walked for awhile in silence.
"If you are against the vampires, then what does that make you?" I asked, breaking the silence.
Blake was silent for a moment. "I'm a werewolf."
I stopped abruptly to stare at him. "What?"
He stopped, too. "What? I'm a werewolf."
I stared at him. I finally nodded and started walking again. "Ok... and Valerie?"
Blake tucked his hands into his pockets. "Same for her."
Another round of silence fell over us. Blake finally managed to break it.
"So... yeah. Anyway, what about you? I know you're a slave, but you must be very special for Col to fight for you to be in our revolt."
That statement caught me off guard for a moment. Col had fought for me?
"I don't know. There's not much to tell. I've been a slave ever since I could remember. Col and I just share a past."
