A/N: I have updated an extra chapter for you lovelies since my all-seeing-eye told me this was going to be a busy week.
----------------------------------------------------
The cabin we were placed in only had three other girls. One was no older than thirteen. The other two were eighteen and nineteen.
We were all seated against the wall. The three girls stayed on the wall across from Mai and me.
I gathered that all three of them were new slaves, judging by the lack of visible bones and the way they continued to try breaking the cords. I couldn't help but watch the youngest girl bite and tug at the cord around her wrists.
"You can't break them," I said, quietly.
All three of them snapped their heads up, seeming frightened by the sudden conversation.
I lowered my eyes to the cord. "They're enchanted. You're just wasting the energy that you'll need later."
I felt all three pairs of eyes on me. There was an eternity of silence before Mai spoke up.
"What are your names?"
The oldest one spoke first. She had auburn hair that fell down her shoulders in waves. "Willow."
The one with black hair introduced herself as Grace. The youngest with curly blond hair introduced herself as Sadie.
Mai smiled at them all. "It's nice to meet you all. I'm Mai, and this is Airlia," she said, pointing to me.
They noted me with a nod. When they looked at Mai, they finally returned her smile. No doubt, they felt at ease with Mai. She had that charm with people.
The first time I had met Mai, I was transferred to a new camp. It was one of the first camps I had been to after my mother died.
Mai was there, as well. As soon as she saw me, she had the strongest urge to comfort me and make me feel welcomed. Ever since then, we've been friends.
Mai was making small talk with the three girls as we waited to be transported. She would send me glances as if to say that we needed to talk about what had happened. I really didn't want to talk about it. I just wanted some time of silence.
The door to the cabin slid open, revealing two guards. One was the bald guard that I had seen earlier. As I saw him up close, I noticed that he had tattoos along one side of his face. I also saw that he had the unmistakable red eyes of a vampire.
Another guard with black sunglasses came in. I assumed he was the other guard that had been at the auction. He was taller than the other guard, but he wasn't as bulky as him. He had thick, brown hair that cut off just above his shoulders. He had a black, leather jacket over a white shirt and black pants. His leathered boots gave him a few more towering inches.
The three girl shifted to a corner, far away from the men. I rose to my feet to stand in front of Mai, who stood in front of the girls.
The bald man walked up to me with a sneer. I tried not to show my fear as he came to tower over me.
"You're quite a spit-fire, aren't you?" He smirked, but it quickly vanished. "That won't last long, luv."
He finally yanked my arm forward, baring my slave level number. He glanced down at the numbers that read 5.483.
In one flash, I felt a scalding metal on my arm. I cringed as the skin became bubbly and red. The letter 'M' appeared on my skin with a serpent wrapped around it. My last mark of ownership had vanished.
