(Time jump one month)

It has officially been one month that I have been a slave here at the Melanchthorne manor. I have become restless in my work just as I always have in my other jobs. Every day seems like it's the same.

The only highlights of my day are when I get to take a shower, see my friends (that's right, I have made more friends), and sleeping.

The low points of my day: when Adam comes to mess with me while I'm working. Just like right now.

"Little slave." I heard the sing-song voice behind me.

I gritted my teeth, clenching the stone in my pocket. Yes, I still kept the stone from my day in the field.

I put up the last book I was supposed to shelve before slowly turning around to face Adam.

"Yes sir?" I forced myself to say.

Adam snickered. "I see you've learned some manners."

His hands ran down my arms before resting on my hips. I cringed at the feeling of his cold skin pressing against my clothed waist.

"P-please release me, sir," I said, pulling back.

Adam's grip on me tightened. "I don't think I want to," he said.

"I need to work," I said, raising my voice.

Adam's eyes flashed red before fading to a natural blue color. "Very well," he growled, releasing me.

I released a breath as soon as he left the room. I turned back to the books that I still had to put up. Unfortunately, these books had to go on the top shelf.

I pulled out the rickety stool before setting it up. I grabbed an arm-full of books and started to climb up the stool.

One after the next, I ordered the books. At the very end of the top shelf, a book title caught my attention from the corner of my eye.

Vampirism.

I glanced around me before grabbing the book. I flipped to the first page, scanning the words that were arranged.

"....the infamous creatures of the night..."

I read the last line before I heard a creaking floor board from behind me. I slammed the book close, but as soon as I tried to turn around, I fell from the metal stool.

I would have crashed into the floor if I hadn't been caught. I looked up and gasped when I saw the eldest son.

Why is he here?

I realized too late that I had voiced my thoughts. The son's lips pulled into a frown.

"I believe this manor partially belongs to me. You have no right to question me, slave."

I couldn't even mutter out an apology. My brain was dead, leaving me staring at him with an open-mouth.

His eyes suddenly flicked down to my arms. I followed where his eyes landed, and I felt myself panic. In my arms, was the vampirism book.

"I..."

The son snatched the book from my arms before I could even form a thought.

"Get back to your work," he said before stalking off.

I rested my head against the bookshelf. No doubt he was going to turn me in.

Kill me now.

I took my usual spot next to Mai. I've noticed that her and Grayson have been quite friendly towards each other.

It's amusing to see the way they constantly blush whenever they are around each other. True, slaves aren't supposed to have romantic relationships, but that hasn't stopped Will and Melody.

I sighed when I heard the annoying voice of Piper, the announcement woman (as I liked to call her).

She made the usual announcements: what's expected of us, propaganda, and things going on in our 'new society.'

When the list of names for feeding was announced, I felt sick, like I always do. Fortunately, it was another day saved.

In a sense, I wasn't as worried about my name. No, what concerned me the most was the possibility of losing my friends and the ones I cared most about.

I had just returned to my room after returning from the shower rooms.

Since it was a new month, slaves were given another change of clothes. I had received a white nightgown and a pair of black 'leggings', as Phoenix had called them.

Tonight, my room was a little stuffy. As a result, I had left off the leggings, wearing only the gown.

I finally lay down, pulling the covers up to my chin. As I lay in darkness, I slid my hand under my pillow. I eventually felt the jagged edge of the barbed piece of metal. Right next to the object was the stone.

They weren't much, but they made me feel safe. Even though they weren't actual weapons, I felt that I could sleep because I had another way to protect myself.

I was starting to sink into sleep when I felt warm skin brush against mine.

"Collins," the person whispered.

It took me a moment before I could make out brown eyes that almost seemed black in the darkness.

"Frost?" I mumbled.

Col nodded before straightening up to his full height. He tossed me my leggings when he noticed some of the bare skin of my leg peeking out from under the blanket.

"Put those on and get your shoes on," he said before turning to face the wall with his back facing me.

Finally, someone with decency.

I pushed the covers off of me before pulling on the leggings. I slipped on my poor boots that had been given to me.

I glanced at Col's back, confirming that he wasn't looking. I reached under my pillow, grabbing the barbed metal. I then slipped the metal into my boot since I didn't have any pockets.

Col finally turned around. His eyes briefly glanced at what I was wearing before he opened the door.

"Come on."

"Where are you taking me?" I asked in a low voice as we passed the closed doors of the other rooms.

Col was silent before finally answering.

"The entertainment room. The sons have requested your presence."
