I returned to my work after Col had left the room of metal cabinets. I kept my head down in order to avoid the stares that everyone kept sending my way. I could hear the whispers and the rumors that were already starting to build. I chose to ignore them and work.
Another reason why I didn't pay much attention to what the other slaves were saying about me was because of what Col said. He had found Mai! A part of me was scared if that meant she was alive or...
Still, I couldn't help but be excited. There was a possibility that I could see her. I anxiously awaited the sound of the dismissal bell.
When the bell did finally sound, I almost ran out of the library. Once I was in the hallway, nothing was stopping me from running. I darted past the shower room and the dining room.
Just as I was passing the main floor, I collided into someone. I would have fell on my face if the person hadn't caught me. My gaze swung up to meet a pair of familiar hazel eyes. The king's black haired vampire son.
I opened my mouth to say something, but nothing came out. All I could do was stare up into his eyes like an open-mouthed fool.
I snapped out of the trance I was in when his hands left my waist. He then looked down at me with a sneer. "I'd avise you to watch where you are going," he growled.
"I'm s-sor-"
I didn't even get to finish my apology because he was already walking away from me. I was left blinking in astonishment. The red-headed son passed, followed by the pale-haired son. The pale-haired one gave me a wink as he passed by.
After I collected myself, I remembered why I was running in the first place. I began to sprint once more, but I kept at a steady pace so I wouldn't have an unfriendly encounter like I just did.
I barged into my room with more excitement than I had ever had. I couldn't help but smile as I opened the door. As soon as I stepped into the room, my smile fell when I found that no one was in here.
I sat down on the edge of the bed, feeling slightly disappointed.
Maybe she'll be here in a moment, I thought.
I leaned back on the bed, looking up at the ceiling. I remained that way for a couple of minutes. Before I knew it, I had fallen into sleep.
It wasn't long before I felt someone gently nudge me awake. I opened my eyes slowly, expecting to see Mai. Instead, I saw a pair of brown eyes that belonged to Col.
"Col... why-"
I didn't even get to finish my question before I felt someone tackle me from the side. I heard a familiar giggle from the person that had me in a tight hug.
I looked up and saw the familiar blond curls of Mai.
"Mai!" I shrieked as I returned her hug.
We both giggled as we gave each other the tightest hug in the world. A rush of relief and excitement hit me.
I slowly looked up at Col. He was leaning against the wall watching us. I noticed that he looked slightly uncomfortable, but he didn't make any move to leave.
I mouthed 'thank you' to him. He inclined his head before giving me a small smile.
"I don't mean to interrupt, but perhaps you two could catch up at dinner. The other watchers would probably not like you to skip, considering that the head clan will be there tonight," Col said.
Mai and I looked at him before nodding. We followed Col, trailing behind slightly so that we could talk amongst ourselves.
"Do you know him?" she whispered, darting her eyes to Col's figure in front of us.
