I groaned as I awoke from another nightmare. I had been having the same dream for the past week.
I still didn't know who the voice belonged to, and to be honest, I didn't want to. I kept thinking that if I didn't know who the person was, then I could convince myself it was only a dream.
Deep down, however, I was doubting myself. Especially after I had awakened one night to find 'Sweet Airlia' painted on my walls in blood. Then when I blinked, it was gone.
I was walking from morning role call when I passed by the main office. To my surprise, the door open and I saw raven black hair that belonged to none other than Kadrian.
He held my eyes. The next thing I knew, his hand was locked on my wrist, and we were in my section of the library.
I backed away from him until my back was against a bookcase when I realized that we were completely alone in the room.
I'm alone with a vampire. I'm definitely dead.
He noticed that I was leery around him and smirked.
"Do I frighten you, slave?" he asked in a low voice.
"Don't get too arrogant, vampire. I'm only leery of you," I bit out.
By the time I had realized what I said, it was too late to stop it from coming out of my lips.
Why can't I keep my mouth shut?!
To my astonishment, Kadrian's lips tipped up into a small, amused smile.
I looked up at him, awaiting for him to explain what he needed. He finally reached into his black waistcoat before pulling out a book.
Kadrian dangled the book in front of my face by his fingertips. I recognized the book as the book of vampirism.
He raised an eyebrow. "This book wasn't meant to be in this library in the first place. Also, a slave like you shouldn't have had your hands on it. Care to explain?"
I clenched my fists as I narrowed my eyes at him. "My apologies, sir. I was curious because I've never been able to observe books fully until now," I said.
He gave me a skeptical look, but I didn't say another word about the subject.
"If that is all, Master Kadrian, I must begin my work," I forced myself to say his name.
I began to dust the books and shelves, but I was stopped when a hand grabbed my wrist. I was spun around and came face to face with Kadrian.
"I would also advise you not to tempt my brother, slave."
So his brother is a swine, and he is a donkey. What a lovely family.
I bit the inside of my cheek. With my hard-headedness, I had to have the last word.
"Believe me, I wouldn't tempt him or any vampires like you," I growled.
He glared down at me, and I returned his glare with my very own. If looks could kill, I believe we would have already been blown into oblivion.
It was at that moment that I realized how close we were. His chest was almost flushed against mine. His hands were braced on both sides of my head, pinning me in. He was bent down slightly so that we were eye to eye. Still, my stubbornness made me not back down.
