Chapter 39:

(Song is "Violet Skies" by In This Moment) I highly recommend you listen to the song towards the end of the chapter!!! Tell me what you think!

I was carted into a rather large office by two guards flanking each side of me. Their tough act amused me when they held me as if my skin scalded them. One shoved me down in a chair with my wrists tied behind my back in some kind of rope. He then hurried away from me.

They think that they can contain you, the voice giggled out.

I stared the guards down until they shifted uncomfortably. I took that chance to take in the room. There was only one door, which was guarded by more guards. I was seated in a chair across from a desk and another chair. The room was very plain. Nothing decorated the walls except the gray wallpaper.

It wasn't a moment later that a group of men stormed into the room. The king pushed his way through until his eyes landed on me. His eyes were both vengeful and excited.

Kadrian followed into the room, but he didn't push to the front like his father. He remained at the back of the group, next to the door. I knew that his aloof façade was only for show because I could feel his eyes shift over to me when he thought no one was watching him.

I didn't dare see what his expression held. Instead, I kept my eyes trained on the king. He expected me to cower at the sight of him, but I only arched a brow in question, awaiting what he had to say.

His eyes shifted to the excess men in the room. "Leave us."

The group and some of the guards left. Two guards were left, along with Kadrian and the king. When the door closed, the king flashed right in front of me. Before I could blink, he delivered a rock-hard slap to my face. A fresh trickle of warm blood slithered from the cut he left on my cheek.

My eyes slowly lifted back to him as he sneered down at me. "You killed my brother and many members of my covenant!" he growled.

I waited for him to continue to speak. My lack of words apparently infuriated him, for he ended up gripping my chin in a firm grasp. "Your actions are pushing your survival rate to a low. I could kill you-"

"But you won't," I blurted out.

His eyes blazed with fury before he delivered another snap. When he saw more blood surface, he smirked. "You are correct, but death will be a sweet mercy I will never grant you, for I will ensure that you will never see the light of the world again."

He backed away from me. "I thought you to be dead. Who would have known that your traitorous parents actually smuggled you out?" He chanced a glance at me from the corner of his eye. "I hope you know that your actual parents are long gone. For you see, I am a man that can forgive certain things, but treason is definitely not one of them. Therefore, I personally carried out the deed myself." His lips twisted into a nasty grin.

I assume he thought the fact bothered me. Honestly, nothing seemed to faze me.

"And?" I asked.

His grin disappeared for a split moment, but he soon regained his composure. "I thought you to me soft, but I see you're rather cold-hearted... or so you seem to play. No matter. With time, I will break you with what I have planned for you."

King Thaddeus stroked his chin in thought. "How exactly have you survived all this time? Your nature has obviously been hidden, otherwise one of us would have sensed you as soon as you stepped onto the manor. Adamion did warn me that something wasn't right about one of the slaves. I thought once we had finished the angel pretending to be a slave..."
